You Rock

My middle sister is one of those fun loving edgy chicks so I knew I wanted to make her something a little rock and roll for her valentines card.
I had this grand idea a week or so ago, sat down started crafting this and painting that, spraying over here, and cut over there all to make this idea in my head. Unfortunately once I was done making all the pieces parts I couldn't figure out how to make them work together. Don't you just hate when that happens?

Fortunately for me when I saw the sketch over at Get Sketchy this week it all came together :)

I'm also entering it into Wee Memories Anything Goes

I started with a piece of white card stock (shocking I know :) I painted the entire piece with pink acrylic paint. While the pink was drying I cut this really cool zebra striped heart with my cricut. It's from the Love Stuck 2010 cartridge. Here is a photo the them. The one in the top row is the one for the background.
I cut it at 7 inches and applied zig two way glue to the back of it so I could use it as a mask. I applied it to the pink piece and sponged black paint over top it. Once this was dry I outlined the top of the stripes with a silver metallic pen.

I took another piece of white card stock and cut it to 4 x 5 1/4. I adhered the painted background to it. Using first a silver and then a black pen with a ruler I drew the lines around the panel. After that I rubbed on some spun sugar around the outer edge.

I painted a white piece with the pink paint again but this time I sprayed the whole thing with Pearl Glimmer Mist. Instead of blotting it off I let the glimmer mist pool and dried it with my heat gun. I then traced my chip board shape on to the pink by putting it face up. In order to get the black shadow i traced it again this time putting the chipboard piece up side down. Since chipboard is so think it won't lay flat cause you to trace a piece slightly bigger than the actual shape. This works for me since I'm not so good at eyeballing things lol.

For the heart with wings I smeared some Silver Pearl Liquid Pearls and Baby Blue Liquid Pearls on my craft sheet with some water then painted a white piece of card stock. Once this was dry I cut of the heart wings from my cricut ( the second shape marked in the above picture.) This gave the wings some shimmer to match the heart.

Here is a close up of the shimmer. See how the pooled glimmer mist gave the heart a marbled look? Love it!!

I adhered the big heart over the little heart to make the embellishment more substantial.

For the tag I cut the base out of white card stock and shadowed it with black. I rubbed some more spun sugar on the tag base. I cut the ROCK part of the sentiment out of the same pink/glimmer mist paper using Lyrical Letters Cricut Cartridge. I used regular black card stock for the you and then added glossy accents to make it shiny.

After I adhered everything flat, I added the heart wings with foam. I still felt like in needed something so I added some staples. Every rock card needs some metal don't you think? :)
