Hello Crafters!
Nothing caught on fire last night so I don't have any interesting work stories for you today . . .well that's not entirely true a transformer did catch on fire but it wasn't in dispatch so eh, no biggie.
However I did get the results from the civil service test. I passed!! Whoo Hoo!
More importantly so did all the other girls I work with. Thank God! I already have a job lined up but most of them are relying on going to the new dispatch center. Scary stuff folks.
Okay onto happier things.
Did you know that Simon Says Stamp is now hosting a Flickr challenge? AND it's hosted by the fabulous Barb Engler! If you don't know Barb she is the sweetest, most talented, lovely crafter there ever was. When I first started card making I was pretty discouraged because my stuff just wasn't good. I had little sparks of something but I really had no idea what "MY" style was. I found the Hero Arts Flickr group and comments from Barb and all the other ladies there really gave me hope. Four years later here I am. :) Since I probably never said so Thanks Barb!!
Barb came up with an awesome tic-tac-toe challenge.
I chose the last row. Flowers and glitter next to each other? Like I had a choice! I ended up making two cards with flowers, glitter, and polka dots. I'm not sure I *LOVE* either one but I'm sharing them anyway. Maybe you'll find something in them worth being inspired by :)
I used the roses and leaves from Simon Says Stamp set Best Mom Ever to create a wreath. It looks a little . . .ahem . . . big boned? No? Okay it looks fat. Not PHAT. For all of you who don't speak in acronyms circa 1990, that's Pretty Hot And Tempting. This should probably be left in the 90's with the Macarena and Jerry Springer.
Anyway the wreath is fat. I colored it anyway. I used my copics. After that was done I added some white with my gel pen for my polka dots. The black dots are from another Simon Says Stamp Set called Flower Friend and so is the sentiment. The sentiment really blended in to the roses so I added some glossy accents on top to make it stand out more. I don't think it was as successful as I would have liked but whatever I was invested :)
I added some glitter to a few of the petals for some more shine.
Since I didn't love this one I tried again . . .
This one uses all the same sets and materials as the first. Again not "In love" here.
Hopefully though you find a piece or part that sparks your creativity and it won't all be for nothing :)
Thanks for dropping by!
XoXo

You are WAY too hard on yourself! I happen to ADORE your "fat" wreath, Kelly! It's absolutely stunning! Such a clever idea to use the roses to form a wreath and those colors? Ahhh! Love them! Your second card is also stunning! The purple bouquet is so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind words, my friend! I'm so glad you played in the challenge! :)
I love the first one best, Kelly, and have pinned it! The pretty bouquet of buds is a sweet one, too, but there's just something about a wreath, and when it's made of flowers, I'm all in!
ReplyDeleteI just love both your cards Kelly - I was just admiring them on flickr - they both look amazing! xx
ReplyDeletegorgoeus!! love the bright colors, white backdrop and white dots!!!

I can't believe you're not totally in love with your cards, Kelly...they are absolutely GORGEOUS!!! And, I'm not kidding! Your Copic coloring is amazing, and I love your choice of flowers on each one! I also love how you created your own polka dots...that can be a painstaking process, and they are just perfect! Great job on the challenge!
