Hello Crafters!
How are you guys doing? Good?
Good.
My Schedule has flipped around again (Every ten working days. I'm overjoyed) and now I'm on day shift. This mean waking up at 4:00 am instead of going to bed at 4:00 am.
Obviously, this little switch-a-roo has cut into my crafting time quite a bit. So much in fact I almost missed Altenew's November challenge. I saw it at the beginning of the month. Loved it and then promptly forgot all about it. Thankfully, a crafty friend posted a little reminder (Thanks Marika!) for me. I was like . . .Altenew . . what . . DAMNIT!
Which is actually the nicest word I used when making this card. :)
Here is the gorgeous inspiration photo
I loved the gold framing the flower, the pink and blue together, the splatters, that bold hello. Problem is I loved too much. Much too much.
This is Invasion of the Body Snatchers: Cardmakers Edition. This card didn't feel like me at all. I had managed to get all the things I loved in there only to end up with a card I definitely did not love. I decided to simplify. I only kept the things I really loved. Why am I showing this to you? Because it's important to know everybody makes things they think are awful. Maybe you don't think it's awful, maybe it will inspire you in some other way. If it helps you make beautiful things or reminds you we all make pretty trash from time to time it's totally worth the post.
Now, let's strip this bad boy down.
I . .uh . .I mean . . .move along. Nothing to see here. . .Ahem . .
Oh so much more me. The Sketchy Rose was heat embossed in gold and colored with copics. I used the edge of my Versamark pad around the edge of my die cut and added more gold embossing powder to mimic the frame. One big bold greeting later and I was done. I still kind of wish I could have incorporated the blue but I like it much better than it's busier self :)
Thanks for stopping by!
I'll be back early with our next CASEing Genius!!
XoXo

OH, Kelly!!! I am in love with both of these cards but you are right when you say that the second one feels more like you!! Both have absolutely FAB coloring!! I, too, love the rose encased in the gold frame - my eye was drawn there in the challenge pic!! You are such a masterful card maker, the way you command color is just jaw-droppingly awesome!! Thanks for being so great!! Hey, I am hosting a giveaway on my blog to celebrate my 100th post!! Yippee for me!! Please come by and check it out - I would love to have you!! Have a most wonderful day that begins at 4 am - YIKES!!!!
ReplyDeleteBoth are sooo great colored...I adore always looking at your colored flowers Image Kelly..but the second one is more NOT BUSY love always CAS card..I prefer to choose the second card Kelly :) hugs n hope you feel better..
ReplyDeleteHey Kelly! I adore your second card simply because it's CAS at it's best! Great take on the challenge! :)
ReplyDeleteLess is definitely more on the second one. One can focus better for sure. You have terrific coloring skills, too. The schedule changes must be difficult to adjust to. I'm impressed you can! Thanks for your honesty. Hope you have a good week.
ReplyDeleteHELLO!! I ADORE the first one Kelly...but then you probably knew I would:)
ReplyDeleteLove this! I always love ur creations :)
ReplyDeleteYou're very wellcome! Hmmp.. In my opinion the first card is totally and fully what only a genius can make out of that inspiration photo. It is a perfect take from it, it really includes all the main elements and the feeling from it. I really love the free spirit that it holds. But I totally hear you, though. It is SO frustrating when you have an awesome idea and when you make it into a card it looks horrible (to you). Well, your second take is also amazing!
ReplyDeleteYou are too funny, Kelly! So glad you're on day shift so maybe you'll have more time to craft?
ReplyDeleteI thought your first card was really fabulous...now that I see the 2nd version, it just makes me swoon! Your Copic coloring is amazing as always, and the gold embossing is beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing both cards with us :)
LOVE the stripped-down version. I have a lot of cards like your first one in my trash, too.
ReplyDeleteOne of a kind! Thanks so much for playing along our November challenge!
ReplyDeleteCongrats Kelly! I also would have chosen yours to win!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations...Design Brilliance here!!
