CASEing Genius: Laura Jane

 Happy Monday Crafters! 

After our little hiatus last week I am happy to bring you this week's CASEing Genius, it was worth the wait I promise ;)

Without further ado I give you the fabulous . . . .

LauraJane!!

I first met LauraJane in the wonderful world of Flickr. The whole Hero Arts community is wonderful but it is MADE wonderful but beautiful women like LauraJane. She is always so uplifting with her comments. I love reading her blog, After-Hours Ink & Flowers, she has such acute little quirkiness hat I completely adore. Her style is sometimes clean other times shabby chic but it's always fantastic. We share an affection for all things butterflies and flowers :) I am in awe of the way she is always willing to try something new. 

Let's get to know her better . .

Interview:

1. Who are you and where do you live?

My name is LauraJane, I'm married to my best friend whom I've known since childhood. We have 6 kiddos that we homeschool. Home is in Illinois about 30 minutes from the Arch in St. Louis, Missouri. Crafting helps keep my sanity:)

2. How would you describe your style?

My style is best described as Organic, Freestyle collage...I REALLY love flowers and all things viney:)

3. Name one product you're completely crushing on right now?

Still knock down in LOVE with Distress inks.and the magic that happens with them.  Swooning over all the new Multi-step floral stamps out there. They are a dream come true!

4. What is was your first crafty purchase? Would you still buy it now?

My first crafty purchase was the Teresa Collins Stamp Maker... but I could NEVER get my printer to work with the maker's program..HUGE sad face!...This lead me to seek out pre-made stamps from companies  like Hero Arts and PTI. Once I found the CLEAR Acrylic sets I was hooked!

5. What is your current favorite song?

Thrive by Casting Crowns is at the top of my list. Then it would be You're not Alone by Owl City and Britt Nicole.  Owl City is SO fun to listen too:)

6. Who would play you in a movie?

 Jennifer Lawrence could play my younger self and for my mature years Robin Wright. It really just needs to be someone that doesn't take themselves too seriously...Alice from the Brady Bunch was good!

7. One random thing about you that people would never guess?

Well, I'm learning to RIPSTIK..(Basically a skateboard with two off-set revolving wheels and two platforms with a rotating notch in the middle). It's a work in progress.  As my younger daughter says I, "just don't know how to fully wiggle yet!"   :)

 Owl City, skateboards and Robin Wright. Yep, she's a keeper :)

Now let's see some crafty eye candy

Butterflies. I love me some butterflies. The purple/pink and gold combo is killer!

I adore the white on white. The background and sentiment give so much texture while not stealing anything from those gorgeous stitched flowers. 

She made those flowers. She MADE those flowers out of paper. Enough said. 

The CASE:

First off let me apologize the photo quality. That Gold metallic is hard to get on film . . er . .pixels . .hmm . . .whatever they are. It photographs terribly. 

I love the color combo from the first card. I decided to variate the colors of my butterflies instead of the colors of my background. I was trying to keep with the mostly white on white look of card number two. The layout of his card took a few turns but eventually I got where I wanted. I stamped my butterflies on a white card panel, heat embossed with gold embossing powder, and colored with distress inks. I thought I could keep it clean and  greatly overestimated my ability ;) I ended up trimming out the whole corner containing the butterflies and adhering them to a second card base. I also trimmed out two butterflies that were colored the exact same way. 

As a nod to LauraJane's stitched flowers in card two I used two rectangle stitched dies to create a frame. I kept the frame white to incorporate her white on white stripes. 

The large "Hello" was die cut from some card stock that was covered with Versamark and heat set with the same gold embossing powder. 

The frame and hello are popped up with dimensional adhesive. I added the two trimmed out butterflies onto the frame and called it done :)
