Three days in a row. What?!
Let's start today with a story shall we?
My son carries his blanket everywhere. Straight Linus blanket carrying. Any time he wants to be comforted the blanket must be included. Surely, the blanket's feelings would be hurt if we left it out of the cuddling or sleeping. Oh the sleeping, from infancy he has slept with his blanket tag in between his top lip and his pacifier like some sort of tag mustache.
As you all know my little peanut butter has been sick. I think we are finally getting to the end of it because this morning he woke up with boogers. Everywhere. Big green boogers. Hanging out of his nose. On his lip. One high up on his cheek. It was like he found a field of boogers and couldn't resist sticking his face in them.
I picked him up. We head immediately to the bathroom to clean up the booger party on his face. You don't have to go home but you can't stay here and all that jazz.
We change the diaper, find some Mickey Mouse Clubhouse to entertain us (Hot Dog!), and I make breakfast. Or I try to because Nathan keeps handing me his blanket. I say "Thank You" and return it, after a minute he hands it back. this goes on, maybe three times. Finally I'm all "Buddy, you keep the blanket, this french toast isn't gonna make itself." Nuh uh. He gives me the blanket back. I really look at it. There is a huge green booger on his tag. Ahhh! I can only imagine the poor kid was like "Hey Mom, the booger is still there, take this back." "Mom seriously, B-O-O-G-E-R, right there on my tag" and finally. "Thank God, Ma. You were starting to worry me there."
Hahaha. I laughed so hard. and apologized because clearly I should have seen the booger the first 6 times ;) I hope you laughed as hard as I did!

Today's card is for the current Fusion Challenge
I was inspired by the photo but I also loosely used the sketch. At my craft retreat last month a friend of mine couldn't make it so I wanted to send here something to let her know she was missed AND it's her birthday.
The image I used is a Mo Manning digital stamp called Cupcake Thief. I think it's just darling. I did my usual copic coloring with some detail and shimmer. The sentiment is from another Mo Manning set called Dee. It's so perfect!

How does one go from talk of boogers and then that fabulous card so seamlessly! I did giggle at your field of boogers story. I'm so glad to hear your little guy is feeling better. And know all about the blanket lovey. Although my kids didn't have a thing for the tag. I will never look at one quite the same way again. Thank you very much! :) Your card is all kinds of fantastic, Kelly! My goodness that expression on her face is priceless. The sentiment is perfect. You've colored this fabulously as well. Don't you hate it when you FINALLY understand what the kid was telling you and realise you should have "listened" properly in the first place? ;-) My little one was attached to her Binbi (blankie that she couldn't pronounce as a baby). We feared ever leaving that Binbi behind because it was the ONLY pacifier she would use and it was essential for sleep and for calming down. Around 6 years of age she decided she might try sleeping without it. At 7 she told me it was no longer needed, at all. I'm sort of sad for the poor rejected Binbi, but very glad it lasted long enough until she was finished with it. Now, I did actually come to tell you how awesome your card is (before your story distracted me) and to advise that I still need to come and get colouring lessons from you. This is AMAZING! And FUN! :-)

ReplyDeleteI laughed so hard when I read this. My son got an Elmo as a birthday present for his first birthday. He used to suck on his pacifier and rub the tag in between his fingers until he fell asleep every night. Well Elmo just turned 11 on my sons 12th birthday this past Christmas, lol. He carried that Elmo night and day EVERYWHERE!! Elmo's drove from New Jersey to Canada and learned a few words of French. He's been a plane and rode every ride in Disney World. Flew on a plane to California and drove on the Pacific Coast Highway with us. And lastly got mailed through the postal system overnight from his Nanny's house, we all didn't sleep that night, Nanny included. I looked all over the place to find a spare Elmo. I finally found one but my son wanted nothing to do with the imposter he called him. I asked him what should I do with the imposter, he said put him in the attic and give it to his children, can you imagine. I used to wait till he feel asleep at night to wash and dry Elmo so I could sneak him back in bed before my son woke up. One day a made the mistake of washing him while my son was a wake, he sat in front of the mashing machine and dryer the whole time crying that I was killing Elmo. Let's just say I went back to washing him when he was sleeping, I felt like the worst mother in the world. As my son got older and he realized that Elmo wasnt alive he would come to me and say mommy Elmo is stinky he needs a bath, lol. Notice I said Elmo turned 11, shhh my son still sleeps with his Elmo. Though he doesn't drag him around everywhere he goes, he does still want to make sure he's in his bed at night. I teased him and said when you go to college are you taking Elmo with you. I got a dirty look and no response, lol. I have a niece just turned 10 who from infancy confiscated one of her moms night gowns, she calls it her yammy! I think it's precious how they just pick something that makes them feel so secure and safe. Thanks for sharing your card and cute story, it brought back so many wonderful memories.

Kelly - I think you are a marvelous mom - full of love and pride in your child!!! I admire so much about you and your dedication and strong feelings for you family is one of the reasons!!! Also, can we just talk about this fun, bright, entrancing card!! I was drawn into this little cupcake tower scene right away and then I had to study the great details on each cupcake and on out heroine who is trying to keep them all in balance!! Such a perfectly colored image and just an amazing "draw you right in and keep you here for a while" card!!! Wishing terrific things for you today!!!

ReplyDeleteKelly, I'm not a native in English so I had to check what is a booger (even though I had some kind of idea what it might be.) Well Google translate didn't know the word so I just googled it this is what google had to say about it: "Booger is the sticky, slimy stuff that's made inside your nose. Everybody gets them, so they're not a big deal. In fact, boogers are a sign that your nose is working the way it should!" Got my answer! Poor little blanket though. It doesn't even have the nose... but still get boogers. Great card! Awesome colouring!
