Hello Crafters!
Happy Monday! haha. If that isn't an oxymoron I don't know what is.
I spent my weekend working, shopping for the house, and planning Nathan's birthday party. I can't believe he is going to be two. TWO!! How can it be that it seems like we just got him but that we never lived without him at the very same time?! Man, feelings are weird.
He's desperately in need of a hair cut but I'll share a snapshot anyway because quite frankly if you never had a toddler running around who was a month over due for having a trim we can't be friends. I'm too disorganized for you I promise.
We are doing a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Theme for his party. Hot dog, hot dog, hot diggity dog! Yeah, we watch A LOT of Mickey.
Alright card time.
I was feeling a little meh in the card arena but I knew I wanted to make a card for a friend who has recently achieved a crafty goal she had set. I'm so excited for her. You guys will be too once the cat is out of the bag. :)
After messing around and getting no where I started perusing challenges. And then I found three. I pretty much never enter a card into multiple challenges but they all fit so whatevs. This is happening.
The first one I started with was CASology's cue card Ombre.
Basically, because who doesn't love ombre? I mean it's gorgeous.
Then I saw my girls over at A Blog Named Hero are rocking the One Layer Challenge. That's my jam yo! Hero Arts, One Layer, Oh yeah baby. I'll even buy you dinner and a movie before we go park ;) I'm generous like that.
The last challenge is Simon Says Stamp's Clean and Simple. See how they all make friends?
Ready, Set, Card!
Yes I know those are poinsettias. No I don't care that it's spring. They are pretty dang it. I'm using them.
I stamped and masked my flowers and leaves. I left all the masks in place then used the diagonal stripes stencil from My Favorite Things along with some Salty Ocean Distress Ink to get my ombre. I removed all the masks and colored with my copics. Outline the image and add some white details. I really wanted to use that super fun glitter paper because I personally believe all cards need glitter. Except maybe funeral cards, glitter may be in poor taste. Unless of course it's my funeral, then by all means glitter it up! I used the Hero Arts Congrats die to do some in lay work. The rest of the sentiment belongs to the same stamp set. Add a bit of Wink of Stella to the flowers and done. Bam!
For feeling meh at the start of the night I'm super stoked about how it turned out. I hope my friend is too :)
Thanks for visiting!!
XoXo

I can see the sweet/orneriness in tour little man's eyes! Love those cheeks:)

ReplyDeleteKelly, you had me at 'toddler haircut'. I also didn't realise that your flowers were poinsettias. I am so cluey in that dept that I thought they were chrysanthemums. Don't employ me as your gardener. I am all into artistic interpretation anyway! But getting back to the point, so glad you joined us at CASology this week. Your card is so vibrant and full of fun. You have achieved so much dimension in your one-layer ombre beauty! Please play again with us, and hope your boy had a gorgeous birthday!
ReplyDeleteLovely and vibrant! In all honestly it would have caught my eye first if I didn't see that handsome little lump on the couch! My fist reaction was OMG! Why does this person have a picture of my son!!! I realized that he wasn't of coarse being a mom but it was kind of funny! Anyways I personally love this look for flowers! Super pretty! :)

ReplyDeleteOh. My. GOODNESS. This is AMAZEBALLS cool!! And lovely and pretty beyond description!! Love the colors and the way those poinsettias now look like a Summer flower in great bloom!! I hope your friend ADORES this card - what a freaking privilege to anyone that receives one of your cards - ART, it is ART!!!! Happy birthday to your little munchkin - hopefully he is sleeping and dreaming awesomely for you now!!! My best wishes to you for a super duper day!!!

ReplyDeleteOh, your little guy makes me miss my boys being two! For Jonah's 2nd birthday, we had a basketball themed party -- so fun!
ReplyDeleteYour card is beautiful! I love the stripes with the flowers!
Firstly, I don't know how I missed this STUNNING work of art...shame on me! But, before I drool all over myself about your card, I have to tell how ADORABLE your little guy is...long hair and all! Oh, and yes, we can be friends...I had a few people ask me if my son was a girl when he was a toddler, but he had tons of curls and I'm sure that is why :) I hope he has a wonderful and super FUN birthday party!
ReplyDeleteOne of these days, I'm going to figure out how you get those gorgeous white details on your flowers, Kelly! The ombre effect is so striking, and your diagonal striped stenciled background is just perfection! I also agree with you about glitter, and LOVE your sparkly sentiment, too! By the way, I wouldn't have known they were Poinsettias if you hadn't told me! OK, I'll stop typing now...(Hugs)
