Hello Crafters!
I had planned on posting this card a bit later today since I should be sleeping right now but for some reason that isn't happening. After laying there, and laying there, and laying some more I thought "Well this is dumb." I figured I might as well get up and try again in a bit. I thought I'd spend my time sharing with you :)
Today's card is for two challenges. The first and most obvious is The Card Concept. This time I think I actually fall into the the Clean and Layered category. Whaa? I know! It is not a flat white cardbased card. Don't be afraid. I think it's okay.
The second challenge is the Throwback Thursday challenge at WPlus9. I love that they have revived their challenge. I seriously missed Monday Mood Boards! Far as I can tell the only requirement is giving your older stamps some loving and that is always a good idea as far as I'm concerned!
Here is the gorgeous inspiration photo from The Card Concept.
As you know I adore dots and stripes especially with a floral. Gah. Makes me happy. I was sucked in by the flowers and polka dots this time. And of course the colors. Always the colors with me :)
That white piece started off as a whole card panel. Yep, my intention was to do a one layer card. Show me your shocked face. Hmmm, looks a lot like your regular face . . . oh? Not shocked?
The older set I used is Hope Seed Co. and it has all sorts of beautiful flowers but I'm always drawn to the rose. Convenient that the inspiration photo has roses in it no? These flowers don't have stems so I drew those in. I also did some creative masking to move the leaves around and get some variation. The little blue flowers, I'm calling them hepatica for my purposes, are from Pretty Peonies. I also drew in a full branch for them. Colored with copics.
Here's where things take a turn. The classic Robert Frost, Road Not Taken, if you will. I was pretty tired of making the same card so I opted for a different way of incorporating the polka dots. Usually I'd add some pattern paper along the side and call it a day. Not today. I know grey is not in the picture but it is a neutral AND it's supposed to be an inspirational photo right?
I colored in a grey background with my copics and used Kathy Racoosin's technique of dabbing it with a cloth saturated with colorless blender. This was my second attempt. I wrecked a card earlier this week trying it the first time :/ After I had it blended to what I thought was enough I added polka dots to the background with my white gel pen. I think it actually came out pretty cool but I wish I had blended the grays better. In real life you can see the white on white polka dots so the fading looks a bit more gradual.
I stamped the sentiment from Simon Says Stamps mother day set and heat embossed it so it would stand out a bit more. I trimmed the panel down to help the background feel a bit fuller then layered it with some dimensional adhesive on some Robin's Egg and Berry Sensation cardstock by Bazzill.
God willing I will be able to nap now or I'll be dead at work tonight. Meh. Adulting.
Thanks for stopping in!
XoXo
