Flowers, Butterflies, and Masking Oh My!

 Hello Crafters!

Yes, I know that's not how the saying goes but that's how it goes here. Especially when there is a card challenge that looks like this.

As you know my week has been crazy busy with overtime. I might make myself sound a little craft obsessed when I say this but the whole time I was thinking if I don't get to play along with that Fusion Card Challenge I'm going to be so mad . . .

So tonight my husband was vying for the coveted Husband of the Year Award and he sent me a text "I know you're tired. Why don't you go home and nap. I'll pick up Nathan after work and order pizza for dinner."  Easily one million points earned towards the  Husband of the Year Award. Kudos to him.

Before we move on can I just say naps are the best thing ever. I can't understand people who don't like naps. Do you hate puppies and sunshine too?! Okay, maybe not that extreme but seriously naps are magical.

Okay, let's get to this card.
Originally when I saw the inspiration photo I was like "masked panel. period" then I saw the lovely Michelle Lupton's card and she had already done just that. She did EXACTLY what I had pictured in my head and I couldn't have done it any better. Michelle is awesome.
After I sat and looked at the flowers I was all Heeeyyyy . . .I have the Winiie and Walter set, In Bloom: Addie's Garden, that I've had in my use pile for a month and I think . ..yep . . .there's a gerber daisy in there.  But there wasn't a butterfly in any of their sets that I own . . .

Oh yes you see a butterfly there, and yes it is from Winnie and Walter stamps except it's a leaf.
A LEAF!
Mwahaha!

Oh man stretching stamps makes me so happy. Essentially this card is everything I love. Flowers, Butterflies, Copics, Stretching Stamps, Masking and One Layer. Oh, no rainbow. So close!

I started by stamping my butterfly. I stamped the leaf once, flipped it over, reinked, and stamped it again. I masked it and then stamped and masked all the leaves and flowers. I colored with my copics. I tried some new color combos to get the colors close to the inspiration photo. I really like the way the dark magenta one came out. Definitely going to write that down for fall :)

When it came time to do the butterfly I used my copic multiliner to draw the body and add interest to the wings.
I used warm grays to add in some shadows then used my white gel pen to add a few more details. You know the drill by now. Outline the whole thing using your multiliner. So worth it!!
The sentiment is from Winnie and Walter's The Big, The Bold, and The Happy. Lots of Wink of Stella finished the card off.

Thanks for visiting!
Happy Friday!!

XoXo

  3. Ohmigosh, Kelly! This is fantastic! I mean truly. I never would have thought to use a leaf stamp to create at butterfly and look how fabulously it worked. Of course, you also added some Kelly magic with your pen which helps. Brilliant. Adore all the masking and the colors for the flowers. That dark magenta is a definitely a keeper combo. Great hubby you have there, that is for sure. :) Happy day to you!
