CASEing Genius: Thordis Dogg

Hello Crafters!

I'm back with our regular Monday post. And by regular I mean the most awesome post of the week, every week on this blog.
I just love doing these posts. It seems like you guys love them too and that makes me uber giddy :)

This week's Genius is the phenomenal

I first saw Thordis's wonderful work on Flickr. She'd pop up in different groups I was a part of and I always loved her stuff. Her style is all over the place. She's elegant and then cute, layered and then clean. I love how versatile she is. I'm always so amazed by people who can do that :)
She's such a sweet person I hope you'll head over to her blog, The Creative Corner, and see just how multi-talented she is.

After you read the interview of course . ..Don't go rushing off without me!

The Interview:

1. Who are you and where do you live?
My name is Thordis Døgg Audunsdottir, I was born in Iceland, but I moved to Denmark in 1998, where I live in a small town called Randers with my dog Polly.
2. How would you describe your style?
I can’t say that I have only one style. I love to experiment, but for the most it’s clean and simple.
3. Name one product you're completely crushing on right now?
My Distress Inks. I am experimenting with watercoloring, and it’s such a big trend now.
4. What is was your first crafty purchase? Would you still buy it now?
My first purchase was some used stamps, and all kind of inks. I wouldn’t buy so many inks again, if I knew what I know now ;)
Fun stuff:
5. What is your current favorite song?
I’m really loving the songs “I’m not the only one” and “Stay with me” by Sam Smith
6. Who would play you in a movie?
This is a tough one, but I would say Gwyneth Paltrow.
7. One random thing about you that people would never guess?
I’m super shy…
Polly isn't that the cutest name for a dog? I might be a bit biased since mine is Molly :)
Ready for some eye candy?
Of course you are!!
Can you say perfect? This is the perfect masculine card. I love the tone on tone stamping. It adds so much interest without any competition.

Rainbow watercolor on a blackground?! Oh sweet Lord I'm in love. It's stunning. The soft vellum and those gorgeous sequins really finish it nicely.

Talk about a simple design with tons of dimension! I love the white on white. Gorgeous coloring!

The CASE:

I loved the watercolor mugs and definitely wanted rainbow watercolor in the card. How could I resist? I couldn't. It's that simple. I adored the tone on tone stamping from Thordis's first card and incorporated that into my mug. Of course the gorgeous tag layout couldn't be forgotten as well as her geometric die cutting in the third card. I stole the sequins from the second card and the scripty font from the third. This card really is pieces parts from all the inspiration cards!

I started by laying down clean clear water on watercolor paper. I used my Peerless Watercolors to add bold bright rainbow colors. While that dried I stamped the large coffee cup from Coffee First from Create A Smile in Memento Tuxedo Black ink. The stamp has some lines already in the design but I wanted to add to it. You guys know I love doodling (plus it means I can play along in Kathy's Pop-Up-Challenge cause I'm sneaky) so I added my own lines to the design and then colored them alternating dark to light. I also added a few white gel pen dots and fussy cut it out.

Now that my background was dry I stamped my sentiment before die cutting. If you die cut before you stamp you can get weird gaping. I forget and do this all the time :/ I die cut my tag from Simon Says Stamp Large Tags. I also used a small circle from spellbinders to mimic Thordis's small squares in the third card. I added some twine to my tag and some sequins to the background to finish the card off. I think I may have been a little heavy handed with the sequins but too much shine isn't the worst mistake in the world :)

Thank you so much for visiting me!
Don't forget to head over to Thordis's blog to see all kinds of goodies :)

XoXo
