Hello Crafters!
It's been a minute. Life and work are just crazy right now. Plus, holidays. God help us. On that note I hope you guys will understand that today's Genius will be the last one this year. I'll be resuming the regular posts in January.
Let's get to it shall we?
Today's Genius is Cat Craig!
I first saw Cat's wonderful creations we she came to visit my blog. Ironically, it was another CASEing Genius post that brought her over. Divine intervention right? :) Cat leaves the very best comments and I adore her for being so encouraging. Her style is sometimes cute, sometimes elegant, sometimes simple but ALWAYS beautiful. You can check out her eye candy on her blog, Cat Luvs Paper.
The Interview:
1. Who are you and where do you live?
I am Cat Craig and I live in Maryland with my husband. I retired early a few years ago and now get to indulge my crafting hobby.
2. How would you describe your style?
I love layers and I love clean and simple styles. I think I am moving more towards the clean and simple style as time goes on.
3. Name one product you're completely crushing on right now?
Zig Clean Color pens, their color vibrancy seduced me and my pocketbook.
4. What is was your first crafty purchase? Would you still buy it now?
Yellow flower stickers and a paper trimmer. I still buy flower stickers to put on envelopes, so yes.
Fun Stuff:
5. What is your current favorite song?
I don’t listen to much new stuff. Nickleback will always make me smile and start to chair dance! When it comes to dancing I am completely uncoordinated and I can either move my body or my feet…never both at the same time.
6. Who would play you in a movie?
This was a tough one, so I called two of my closest girlfriends and both without a second’s hesitation said Meryl Streep; who am I to argue?
7. One random thing about you that people would never guess?
In college I once played backgammon using only my toes; there may have been a bet and alcohol involved.
Drunken Backgammon and Nickelback . . .Maryland isn't THAT far away.
Time for the Goods
That flower. Sigh. What a beautiful focal point. I love the elegance of the tone on tone embossing with the white heat embossing. So pretty.
This card is just so bright and fun. The subtle panel doesn't compete with the sentiment but still adds such a gorgeous softness.
Rainbow. I'm sold. Such a simple but fabulous card. I love that she watercolored the die cut. It brings in a texture that wouldn't be there with any other medium.
The CASE:
This card came out nothing like what I had anticipated. Nothing. I chose to do a cluster of flowers to mimic the flower/twine/button accent Cat has on her second card. I made them pink taking from the pink flower in the first card. They were also clustered in the bottom left just like the second card. I chose to do an ink blended backgrounded in a rainbow type gradient from the third card along with adding the black strips along the edge. I love how her sentiment follows her line in that card and I knew mine wouldn't so I added it another way.
I hope you'll head over and check out Cat's blog, she really is lovely.
In other news I'm also sharing this card over on the MarkerPOP blog. The new challenge theme is New Year's.
Thanks for visiting!
XoXo
