Hello Crafters!
It's a busy week here on the blog and we are going to kick off this Monday with one of my favorite people. Ready, set . . . .
This week's Genius is Nikki Foraker!!
I first met Nikki when she joined in on one of my Periscopes and man, am I glad she did. Whenever she misses one now I'm like "Uh, wth?! What does she think she's doing, living her life?!" She is sweet and funny, and ridiculously talented but my favorite thing about Nikki, outside of the music trivia obsession we share, is that she's real. She is straight up this is me take it or leave it and I could not love her more for it. Truly, a rare attribute in people nowadays. Her card style is mostly clean and simple or maybe I should say cute and simple either way it's always worth seeing. You can check out all things Nikki at her blog Scrappin' Navy Wife
You're about to see just how fun she is in her answers alone :)
The Interview
1. Who are you and where do you live?My name is Nikki Foraker. I live aboard Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, Florida. My sailor hubby of 16+ years and I share our home with our cat Simba, who we rescued when we were stationed on Guam. We got him when he was 5 months old, and he turned 16 in October! He's come a long way from that dumpster in Guam. :) *Since Nikki sent me her info for the feature she has also gained another family member, a sweet little kitty named Wrigley Pearl*
2. How would you describe your style?I'd say I have crafty schizophrenia. I can be all over the place, but I guess I keep it pretty simple in general.
3. Name one product you're completely crushing on right now?Copics. I just started Copic coloring in March of this year, so I'm still a smitten little kitten! Swoon.
4. What is was your first crafty purchase? Would you still buy it now?Hmm. Well, my Nana got me started scrapbooking my senior year...which was 1998. So I probably bought decorative edge scissors. Barf-a-rooni! HA. I definitely would not buy them now. {also, I don't scrapbook anymore}
Fun stuff
5. What is your current favorite song?Oh, you really don't want to get me started with my musical tastes, but since you asked...I really love all genres of music...except spastic jazz, that I can live without. But you asked me for a song, so I'll pick Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars. If you can listen to that without catching a serious case of the happies, you should seek immediate medical attention. {Also, it's so good it inspired a funky dragon card for cripes sake!}
6. Who would play you in a movie?Parker Posey. Because she is my Indie movie spirit animal.
7. One random thing about you that people would never guess?That I am a crier. I cry at everything! I cry at commercials daily. I cry at concerts, because I'm so happy! LOL. My poor husband.
Barf-a-rooni?! Seriously, if you didn't laugh you are a robot. Also I completely agree with everything she said about Uptown Funk. Car dancing keeps your heart happy folks.
Eye candy time!
How stinky cute is this?! I love that she used a song lyric as a sentiment. Super fun! Plus, that Dragon was clearly meant to be a rockstar.
Sweet and simple. I love how those bright colors pop off the page.
My first thought? Oh man it's beautiful and I bet it took forever. Haha! Seriously worth all the effort though. That sky is watercolored so beautifully I love the texture. Of course, those flowers and gorgeous butterfly are stealing the show. Such stunning coloring!
The CASE
Before you say anything, I know this doesn't look anything like any of Nikki's cards. Ha! I don't know how it got so full. It just happened! :)
I really loved how Nikki's first card had an intention border. All three had super bright colors and that was right up my alley. I don't own any "tropical" themed stamps but I desperately wanted to incorporate the fun style of her hula girl from card two. Last, the watercoloring in card absolutely had to make an appearance along with some gorgeous flowers.
Of course, it was all recorded for your viewing pleasure,
You know we have to do a close up. If only so you can see the white gel pen haha!
Thank you so much for stopping by today!
I do hope you'll shoot over to Nikki's blog and say hello :)
