I had been coveting this stamp set from Concord & 9th for quite awhile but just kept forgetting to pick it up. One of the owners Angie generosity mailed it to me after I mentioned how much I loved it. Talk about sweet right?

Anywho.
I no lined watercolored this beauty. I wanted it to color it period.
I had assumed it would be with Copics but there was just something that drew me to the watercolors today and I happily went with the flow.
I stamped it in Antique Linen Distress Ink so the lines would disappear and then got painting.
For about 2 hours.
Thankfully the video is only about 20 minutes long :)
Ahh It's just so Spring.
Even though the white stuff is stacking up outside my door.
Isn't being creative fun :)

I like to do simple things, small gestures that say a lot. Something say from someone's day to day life that they wouldn't normally expect someone to do for them, like get the mail, or tidy up, or make them coffee. Something that brightens their day even just a little and took little to no effort on my part!
ReplyDeleteOne random act that came to my mind, is when I see a military service member, I go up to them & thank them for their service. I don't feel like they get told that enough. My husband also tries to do that as well. Also thank you to all the 1st responders & for all that you do everyday to make our world safer. I don't think any of you get paid nearly enough for your service. :)

ReplyDeleteWow! This card is stunning. My favorite random acts are ones no one notices. Wiping up the counter in a restroom, picking up trash, or picking up product that has fallen on the floor at a store. Well, all that plus send cards!!! ☺

ReplyDeleteI belong to a few groups that post when someone needs some cheering up and I'll make a card to send. It's nice to think of putting a smile on someone's face when they open their mail. I also make and send cards to a group called Cards for Soldiers. The coordinator then sends them to troops so they have cards to send home to their friends and family.
My weekly RAK (Random Acts of Kindness) happen every Friday when I stop & get my Friday morning Dunkin Donut order and ALWAYS pay for the person’s order behind me. I started doing this when someone did it for me and it made my day so bright & cheerful that now I do it too. I love your You Tube videos, your humor, your style, design, creativity, and talent all combine to make a wonderful watching experience. Thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteI like to pay for people's groceries. You can usually tell when someone needs some help while you're behind them in the checkout line. I also like to pay for the person (behind me) Starbuck's order as I cruise through the drive-thru. Your watercoloring is inspiring as usual Kelly :) Thanks so much! xoxo jl
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly, beautiful card, I needed a pick me up tonight and when I saw your video went straight there! I like to do things that people aren't expecting. I don't have a lot of money but I did participate in the Caring Hearts Card Drive for seniors this year, I also made 150 Christmas tags for all my co-volunteers and at Halloween I die cut a bunch of dies and made blank cards for them to decorate. I also made and stamped 40 Christmas tags for my little cousins to color in themselves.

ReplyDeleteI’m a huge believer in handmade kindness so I send out stacks of my handmade cards to friends and family so that they can pay it forward and keep the happy mail bus rolling.
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous! I love to do things for my elderly neighbors such as shoveling the snow from their driveway like I did earlier this evening or putting up their trash bin. Also love picking up the tab for cars behind me in drive thrus.
ReplyDeleteI like to bake cookies and drop them off with a neighbor or another thing I try to do fairly often is to let someone behind me in line at the grocery store go in front of me.
ReplyDeleteSimply fabulous card, Kelly! Our local supermarket requires a dollar to unlock a shopping cart. Whenever I see someone struggling to find a loonie (Canadian $1 coin), I offer them one of mine.

ReplyDeleteI often show kindnesses in small ways, like offering to return the cart in the grocery store parking lot for an older person who is finished with it.
Up until a couple of years ago i was really struggling, so every cent counted. There was times that i would be short by a few cents and would have to put an item back at the register, so now when i see someone a bit short at the register i alway just hand what is needed to the assistant, and tell the person to pay it forward when they can. I love to see the relief on the persons face especially when they have children with them...

Oh my gosh your painting is beautiful. You're so on on the colors. I love the no line coloring. For my RAK I love sending out cards for "just because" and other things I have done is in my bible study class one of the girls was getting into stamping. So I invited her over to my house and have been teaching her different techniques and I went through my unused - gently used and just not my style anymore products and gave them to her. I have done this with a few people. It makes me feel great helping someone get started in this awesome paper craft world. Thanks for your videos. You always inspire me.

ReplyDeleteHey Kelly!! What I love to do is when I’m see a military person, a police officer or first responders I tell them THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!! They don’t hear that enough! And I will pray for anyone in need of prayers...especially for those who have been diagnosed with cancer...I’m a cancer survivor myself and praying is what got me through it. It will be 11years this June that I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer...I really appreciate all the prayers I received and I’m positive that’s why I’m still here today!! Btw Kelly I love your creativity and inspiration you give me when I watch your videos!! Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteKelly your card is simply stunning! My favorite RAK is the small things, a cup of coffee for someone who needs it, a smile, a compliment, a hug and even a thank you when it isn't expected. Small things can break someone, but even smaller things can make someone.

ReplyDeleteFor grieving parents I make book markers for Memorial Day, thinking of you birthday cards and my close friends that I've gotten a known over the last 5 years. I make them thinking of you on their child's Angelverary. I want the patents know that someone remembered. My son's Angelverary is Feb 5, 2013 car accident. I needed something good to come out of his death

ReplyDeleteI try to spread a little kindness often in little ways. I'll thank my cashier at a store, I'll give a co-worker a piece of chocolate just because, and I will make a "You go girl" card for someone just because it's Hump Day. (BTW - I absolutely love your card.)
ReplyDeleteThis is probably going to sound stupid to some of you, but it is something that I had done for me one time and it absolutely made my day, so I've decided to do it whenever I am able to now. It's simple, but kind. Whenever I go through a drive thru, (let's face it I'm no world star chef so it's pretty often) I simply pay for the person behind me as well. I have no idea who the person is or what is going on in their lives at the moment, and something that simple could just turn their whole day around. That was the case when it happened to me. I was having a horrible day and felt so defeated that day, but when the worker told me what they had done, I couldn't help but smile and feel cared for in that moment. I love knowing that I might possibly be doing that for someone else. Anyway!! Absolutely stunning card Kelly!!! Thanks for everything. Big Hugs!!!

ReplyDeleteFor random acts of kindness, when I'm shopping, I try to notice if someone needs help reaching for something, or finding something, and I'll try to help them as best I can. Sometimes, it's as simple as talking to someone while in line to pay for something. These folks have such interesting stories, or something interesting about themselves to tell.
Saw the preview shot of a pink bloom... Then the IG shot of the card. And thought "man I'd love to see her create this". And then I saw the word "video". Yay. And thanks. Off to learn something new today! As for RAK guess what I'm known for is bringing a casserole to a family in mourning. Not very fun, eh? But it's not common practice here in Germany.
ReplyDeleteKelly I love watching you paint... and for me 2hours to watch you would be time well spent. I support local charities as much as I am able.... by baking ,crafting and general helping. I also help the elderly by popping in to have a chat and cup of tea, sometimes you are the only person that they have seen for days. But most of all I would love to come to your house and completely organise your craft room, I am a bit obsessed about organising and I love it. Jennifer Maguire has taught me well...lol xx
ReplyDeleteYour card is so pretty and amazing. Love the no line water coloring. Your photography is so striking as well. For the RAK, it is usually spontaneous. Usually I send an unexpected card, or help someone out at a store. The last time that I reached for something when a lady needed help, she saw me in the parking lot and yelled out, "Have a nice day."

ReplyDeleteKelly, your card is gorgeous!! I create small watercolor cards with encouraging sentiments on them and carry the cards in my purse. When I see someone having a tough time or a rough moment, I give them one of the cards. It always seems to brighten the recipient's day.
ReplyDeleteWhen I see a child suffering with cancer, I send a get well card...then try to keep sending them every month. (and don't forget the siblings)I also send encouragement and praying for you cards to the parents. After the children pass, I continue to send random cards to the family...it is almost like they have become my family too.
ReplyDeleteYet another beautiful card. I tend to live life with the mentality that you help whenever you can, wether it be by giving some time to help a friend/co-worker or family to making someone smile at the coffee shop drive thru by paying for their coffee!

I enjoy doing anything for the elderly and children, and disabled (I guess mostly the ones that can't defend themselves) It doesn't matter if it's donating to toys for tots,volunteering my time there or at an older folks home with those who have no families or helping a disabled person with whatever they need help with or even just making them laugh by a corny joke of mine. ReplyDeleteI just spent a week cleaning and reorganizing my craft room. As we all know this job with so many items is no small task. However, my sister's and friends call me the organizational queen and say I missed my calling...I love doing it what can I say. I would love to do yours, LOL!
What I like to do as a random act of kindness is very different. After a big snow storm and we get cleaned out, my husband and I like to go for a drive to see how bad it is in different areas. We take his truck and shovels and when we come across an older man/woman who is struggling to shovel their driveway by themselves, we pull over and help them finish it. This is totally random and folks are shocked that someone would do this. When they offer to pay us we just hop back in the truck and say pass it on. It's really fun to do something that is so appreciated.

Beautiful! I try to be aware of my situation, example, someone in front of me digging for enough money to pay at register, paying for next person in line is fun too. Just on the lookout to show kindness each day then acting on it makes a difference in the world.

Little things mean a lot. I really want to get more cards out this year, and have a stash ready to go when I need them.

ReplyDeleteLove this no line coloring card! So pretty. Sending cards to friends, neighbors and church family is one thing I like to do as an RAK. I also make bookmarks and leave them in library books that I return. Perhaps they will still be in the book when the next person checks them out.

ReplyDeleteyour card is so pretty in those soft colors - that truly is a lovely stamp set - i think one of the best RAK things one can do is to smile at clerks in stores, thank them and say something nice - they stand on their feet all day and i'm sure often meet grumpy people.

I always help the elderly load up their groceries in their car, if I see they might need assistance. I'm not out there stalking them but I will help if I see it. :)

Love your card! Sometimes I create a homemade paper box with a pysanky egg inside and leave it in a public place with a note saying, "Take me home, I'm yours, I'm a free gift to you"
ReplyDeleteYou have no idea how much I enjoy your videos Kelly. They are instructional but personal at the same time. It's like getting to know someone slowly. I practice a variety of RAK. From something as simple as smiling at people on the street & saying hello as I pass them, telling a stranger in a store they look great in what they are wearing, (men & women both), assisting someone in need of a helping hand, sending a card "just because", I try to make people I meet feel like I'm interested in them & I am. Everyone needs to feel recognized for something. I could list more, but you get the idea I hope.

It is a feeling like no other when you do something nice for someone else especially when they don't know who did it. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI love your no line watercolor! It makes such a soft and beautiful card. I agree this is a wonderful stamp from Concord and Ninth! I participate in a card ministry at church. We are just 5 women, but we make about 3000 cards per year - some doing stamping and some just recycling used cards. We give these away to be used for encouraging others in many ways. Each card contains a Bible verse which we hope will be an encouragement to someone. The stories we hear back from those who receive the cards are so encouraging to us and that keeps us going. We have been doing this for a little more than 10 years. I have loved reading in the comments all the acts of kindness people are doing!

ReplyDeleteAs for my random acts of kindness. I try to do them whenever I can. I used to carry spare quarters and fill expired parking meters so the car owner wouldn't get a ticket. Now I try to donate to a food bank monthly, they need support all year long. But that is more planned than random. This year I hope to send more cards randomly to people without occasion, just to brighten their day. .

Beautiful painting! I think driving carefully but with generosity toward fellow drivers can be a random act of kindness. This can new hard for me- especially when I'm in a hurry!
ReplyDeleteOne way I like to be randomly kind is to pay the toll for the car behind me on a toll road. Another opportunity presented itself at Wal-Mart one day. A young mother with a toddler and a baby didn’t have enough money to pay for all of her items. She had to pick and choose which items to delete from her purchase. She left and I saw all of the discarded items laying near the cash register; little socks, baby wipes, things like that. It broke my heart so I told the cashier that I wanted to buy those remaining items for that family. I had to run after them to catch them before they got away to give them their stuff. Damn if that didn’t feel so good!. Ha ha.

Beautiful card as always Kelly. My random act of kindness....i left brand new dresses my daughter never wore (tags on) at a neighborhood house where I knew the little girl needed clothes. I left them at their front door at night.
ReplyDeleteI love this set! I always make sure I compliment a stranger on their jewellery or an item of clothing. Or if someone is trying something on in the changing rooms and I am there I always make the effort to say if it suits them. I want people to feel good about themselves. Nothing better than hearing it from a stranger! I love making and sending encouragement cards too x
ReplyDeleteJust a beautiful card. Love that you use a variety of colours for the leaves. Probably intuitive to a card maker, but I make cards for random people just to put a ray of sunshine into their day. I have a card project for my mom's best friend I've been putting time into (she has stage 4 lung cancer). I haven't seen her in decades but she's my mom's best friend so it's obvious to send her (many) unsuspecting cards to show that I care. It feels cheesy but it's amazing how it feels to receive a handmade card in the mail (FYI: I always watch Miss Congeniality when it's on tv. Just how it is).

I try to do things for others when a hard ship has been revealed to me, for example I was at the vet and the people on front of were talking about the money it was going to take to save their dog. After they left I asked the attendant to put money on their account and to please not tell them who donated the money. I've also left grocery on door steps when I know someone is struggling, anonymously of course.

I love watching your videos. I always learn so much and your sense of humor is delightful. You always make me laugh, which, in and of itself, is a random act of kindness! I like to leave large tips for service at restaurants. I also like holding doors open for people or helping them when their hands are full, etc.

I think it's important to acknowledge the hard work of others and love to see a manager or author smile when they or their employees are recognized.

When I hear someone is under the weather, I like to visit them with a pot of homemade chicken soup and some type of baked goods. It always makes me feel better when I'm down, so I like to pass that feeling along,
ReplyDeleteI love the card. I'm a pretty avid Starbucks coffee drinker. Every 6 weeks or so when I use the drive through, I pay for the order in the car behind me.

ReplyDeleteActs of kindness.....one I'm doing now...is someone who is recovering from a health issue asked to have a card sent to him during he 2 month recovery. I don't know him, but I have been sending him a card every week, hopefully to cheer him up. He posted this on facebook and a friend of a friend sent it to me.....makes me feel wonderful just creating them of him.

ReplyDeleteI love this stamp set too--I am drawn to florals more than any other images. Love to color them and I have been having a ball discovering watercolor. Yours is beautiful. I like to keep my eyes open for those people standing in line who look like they need a break. If I can let them move in front of me, I may have just made their day. And for the staff in the stores, I will just about kill myself to return a cart to where it actually belongs. It really irritates me to see others leave a mess for the staff to tend to, when it only takes a second to actually push the buggy into the one in front of it. The other thing I like to do is to leave a Wawa gift card in the mailbox for my mail carrier on occasion. Especially this time of year when it's cold and damp. (like today!) Thank you for your beautiful work, encouraging words, and even your rambly chat--it makes you seem like a 'real' person!!!

But there was a display right next to her, and she could buy a roll for $3.49. The woman was silent, maybe couldn't afford it or didn't need it. I realized that I needed a new roll myself. I excused myself past the woman in line ahead of me, marched up to the window and loudly said "I'd like to buy this roll of tape. The clerk was speechless while she took my money. I put it in front of the woman and gently said "now you can tape your box." i returned to my place in line and saw the clerk taping the box for her. After I'd completed my purchase, i went by the other window, picked up my tape, touched the elderly woman on the shoulder and said "Happy New Year!" Boy, did it feel good! "

I love the technique here and the color combos are amazing. Navy leaves! Omg, I do have to do that now. TFS! My random acts of kindness varies, depending on the time of year. During the winter, I pay for the person behind me coffee drink. Sometimes when I'm out for dinner, we pay for another table's meal. We also buy sport wear for a child in need on my son's teams when we can.

I love this because it’s something I love and it in turn makes someone smile. I have also done the pay for the car behind me in the drive through. ReplyDeleteYour card is so gorgeous. I usually give through my church for disaster relief or missions. I joined in making cards to send to the troops through a Facebook group I am in. It was so much fun to know someone would receive one of my cards that I didn't even know. Hopefully it helped them through the holiday.
ReplyDeleteI like to send Birthday cards to people I hardly know, with a word of encouragement. Also, thanking people for doing a good job...store stockers, checkers, delivery men, doctors, nurses...Any one. They are always surprised.

My last RAK was to a family that kept getting sick. If it wasn't one thing, it was another :-( I made a batch of elderberry syrup and took it to them, in hopes that it could help them break the cycle. They are better now but I don't know that they used the syrup. I'm just happy they are all feeling better.
ReplyDeleteMy most recent act of kindness was helping a lady at the doctor office who came without funds to pay her copay and it was not convenient to go 20 miles home to get money and come back and she needed the visit to get her meds. She did not know me, nor I her, but I knew I could help and did. She got her meds and all is well with the world.

ReplyDeleteOne of the things we do when we go eat downtown or go to sproting events, is stop at a certain bakery for pastries. We buy extras and package separately and find a homeless person on the way back to the car and give it to them. I started a card ministry at our church this year. Anyone can email me and give me the details for someone that needs a card, and I make one and send it to them. I've already made 4 since the beginning of January - it is so rewarding.
ReplyDeleteI love your card and want to try the no line watercolor technique! When I am out running errands, I like to give a compliment to the person helping me or the cashier. I make sure to look them in the eye and say something positive about them. Most smile real big and their eyes will smile too.

ReplyDeleteI already commented but I didn't put my act of kindness. I saw this idea on Pinterest years ago and so I started doing this myself. I gather materials from my local Dollar Store add a pocket Bible to each plastic bag and create "Blessig Bags". If I happen to see a homeless man or woman on the street or pass by me I will give them one. It's something small that no one knows I do and it's just something between me and God.

ReplyDeleteI try to do a couple of RAKs a week, shoveling for a neighbor, paying for the person behind me in line, running to the store for my elderly neighbor.I also send about 90% of my cards to operation gratitude, knowing where my cards are going just makes the cards that much more fun to make.

I live in Virginia now because we retired here from the navy, I’m 45 btw, but I’m born and bred Louisiana girl, so food makes everything better. If I can’t cook it for you I’m sending you something easy to cook or a gift card to just go out!!! I’ve been making donation cards for the last couple of years, which I make all year and send when they are needed...

Off the card topic, I have OCD and tidying and neatness is a thing I drive my family and friends nuts with so if you struggle with your craft room in the future just let me at it lol. RAK's, I was the first one in my group of girlfriends to have a baby and as it was novelty quite often one of the girls would just come over and look after my daughter so I could have an hour to myself again in the early days, so as they started to have children I would make a point in the early days of popping in and having baby for a couple of hours or washing up pots etc, or taking a pile of washing home to wash and iron and return that day. Just to give back, now as all our kids are older we take turns in springing for a coffee and cake.

ReplyDeleteHi love your cards, just subscribed to your channel. I like to pay it forward with making birthday cards and other types of cards to give to friends, family and others. Where I work it took me 8 1/2 years to get on day shift. I started to make mini albums form scratch for gifts and when someone retired or having a bad day or just because I wanted to give them an album. I have made about 100 albums and only have 2 for myself. In 2016 and 2017 I made christmas cards for the nursing home that my aunt and uncle were in when they passed away. I made 160 cards for 2 nursing homes. I made cards to send to people in card drives so I decided to make them for my own little town because it is so sad that some people don't have any friends or family to visit them. I make cards for my 2nd cousin who is 88 years old so that she can give them to her friends. I am hoping to be able to make Easter cards for the nursing home this year. So that is my way to pay it forward and share handmade kindness.

For the past couple of years, I’ve made holiday goodie bags, bookmarks and other gifts for the kids. I enjoy making these little things and the kids really appreciate them.

I love doing random acts of kindness because so few people expect it. I will snowblower my neighbors sidewalks and drive ways. I also enjoy asking people to join my table in a busy restaurant. I get the added bonus of meeting someone new and learning about them. But my favorite thing to do is to just smile at people, you can make someone's day with just a smile.

The random acts of kindness that I used to do, and since I moved haven't done, and really need to start doing again, is keeping $5 gift cards for fast food restaurants in my car and when I see a homeless person, stopping and giving them one that's closest to wherever ever they are, so if they're standing down the street from McDonald's, for example, I give them the $5 McDonalds card.$5 used to go a lot further than it does these days. Might have to bump it up to 10.

Hi Kelly and all, I am part of a group of ladies who make tactile images in the braille books at the school for the vision impaired, it makes learning to read more interesting for the children as they are able to feel the illustrations. ReplyDeleteI make about 250 cards for residents of nursing homes, our soldiers, and children's hospitals a year. I'm disabled at 48 and have chronic pain. I also have an immune disorder so I can't be around people. These things with my other problems led to a very lonely life. I found purpose again making cards & sharing handmade kindness. It has helped me in so many ways. Just wish I had more to share!

I mainly watercolor images (primarily with ink but planning to work more with real wc paints) so I love seeing your videos that highlight your beautiful watercoloring. One of my crafty random acts of kindness is to donate bunches of cards I've made to the local senior center for them to sell in their store or give away, plus I love to create packets of cards to give to friends or relatives. But mostly on a day to day basis I try to be kind to those I encounter in public, because maybe a smile or kind word or gesture will help them have a better day, as I know it has done so for me in the past.

ReplyDeleteI’m about to watch your video but sometimes it takes a full day to watch as I’m like any woman that has a million things going on! I feel like I need to up my game with doing random acts of kindness for strangers. 2 years ago I married a fantastic man who has 3 children and I came with one of my own. I struggle daily with learning how to balance being a great wife and mom/stepmom and being of service to my family AND being a good citizen and being of service to strangers. For today at least, my acts of kindness are only to those I know. But there’s always tomorrow and always room to grow, right?

I send a handmade card to people who may need a little support to let them know I am here and available how ever they need.

My favorite act of kindness is when I’m in hospital (because I’m sick) and I can actually help another person. A couple years ago, the TV in the hospital wasn’t working for two weeks, that’s a VERY LONG time when you’re in hospital !! And a cousin of mine, who turns out to be an informaticien engineer was able to find a trick so I can have at least a few channels. I was so thrilled to pass the trick along to other sick people ! Even more to those who couldn’t get out of their room. And the best part was that, it was free TV ! Of course, when the hospital fixed their system, everybody turned back to their VERY expensive TV. I hope there are not too many English mistakes so you could, at least, have an idea of what I’m trying to say here.... Love from France, Marjorie

ReplyDeleteFor me I love to smile and saying good morning to people I meet when out and about. I also take the time to actually sit and really talk to the homeless people I purchase food for. It amazes me and saddens me how people without homes are treat by the public as it could easily happen to anyone of us.
I just like to help where I see a need even at a moments notice For example when a thought comes to mind. Maybe paying for someone else or recently I found a person in line and gave them the free drink on my Starbucks buy one get one free. So fun!

ReplyDeleteI don't know that I would actually call it a random act of kindness...but...my Sheltie is a certified Therapy Dog. Meaning...he has a wonderful personality...loves people...loves attention and loves giving attention and love to others. (Makes it very easy for me). When he was a tiny puppy...our vet suggested this route for him because he had SO much energy...the vet said they are "working breeds"...he needs a purpose. We went through several training sessions (basically teaching him indoor manners, etc.), he passed with flying colors. We started out visiting schools and libraries where kids would read to him. Eventually we changed direction and now we visit nursing homes and assisted living centers. He loves to visit the residents...he goes from one to the other and just sits and lets them pet him (he's a big Sheltie...more like a Collie)...so it works perfectly for people in wheelchairs, etc. I was unsure at first of what to talk about etc., but...I didn't have to worry...he makes it easy. While they pet him...they just start talking. The ones who have a hard time communicating are happy to just sit and pet him and smile at me. I get so much more out of this than they do. We've been volunteering for 6 years and hopefully can continue for many more to come. My other very small act is whenever I park in our downtown, I put money in the meters in the row I'm parked in. Meters are new to our downtown and a lot of people forget to put money in...very small but I hope it might save someone a ticket! Thanks for all you do!!!
ReplyDeleteMy random act of kindness is what I call Kindness Cards. They are business size cards with one of my photos (hydrangeas - I love them) on the front and this message on the back: “THANK YOU! Your kindness was noticed and appreciated.” I hand them out to anyone who is kind: baristas, wait staff, nurses/doctors, receptionists, grocery clerk, etc. Some recipients have burst into tears because their day and been terrible and this one simple acknowledgement touched them. As a society we are so quick to complain and slow to compliment. I receive so much joy seeing the reactions of the recipients.
ReplyDeleteMy small RAK. Both my grandparents are gone, so I " adopted" a wonderful woman at a nursing home and send her a hand made card once a month. I know she doesn't get any Fun mail and I miss sending my grandparents fun mail so it's a win,win.

ReplyDeleteMy favourite random act of kindness is to do it anonymously - if I'm doing something, I want to do it to just feel good, not to get a thank you. Another favourite is to reciprocate a random act of kindness - something I did over Christmas as a friend who teaches card-making provided a class for free to me because my husband was just losing his job. He's still out of work, but has a good chance of being employed over the next couple of weeks, so I sent my friend a giftcard to one of her favourite craft stores.

ReplyDeleteI will always hold open the door for the person behind me, I always thank the person that bags my groceries (who most customers don't acknowledge). I should do more RAK, everyone here does wonderful things that I will take inspiration from.
ReplyDeleteI've tried to type up this comment at least 10 times now, but I keep devolving into my theories of kindness and how it basically just comes down to acknowledgement of other people as they are, not their roles or their situation or what we see of them, but that they all have rich vibrant lives of their own and are deserving of being known. Which basically boils down to be nice to everyone: smile, be patient, give specific compliments. Actually, that's a thing I like to do; when I give compliments (or in internet terms, make comments on posts or videos), I try to mention a specific thing that I like, so that person knows that I saw their work in particular. I don't always succeed, but my ideal would be that a comment I made would never work as a copy-paste into a different situation; it's specific to that time and person and outfit/art/service/whatever. I know it always makes me feel on top of the world when other people give me compliments like that.
ReplyDeleteBut as far as more concrete things: I volunteer at a local hospital in a long-term stay guest house, so I'm often just listening to what people need to talk about. Also, because I have chronic health problems and no job, I'm often the recipient of other people's kindness, so I try to be really good about thank you notes. I never want to take people's generosity for granted, so I try to let them know how much those seemingly little things mean to me.
This has been a really lovely post to read the comments of. So many great ideas and ways that we can just be better to each other.

ReplyDeleteThose flowers look like plumerias, and remind me of our time in Hawaii. My favorite RAK is to send a note of encouragement or thanks to someone who might feel a little lighter to know someone is thinking of them. And of course, I get the joy of making and sending it.
ReplyDeleteYour painting is amazing! there are so many opportunities for RAK, if just take the time. Like the Bible says to count our blessings, when we look inward and see how blessed we are, we want to spread that love and happiness around. I am a pastor's wife how has been bedridden for 2 years now. I have received RAK from people all around the world. God is so GOOD! His People are, too. I try to do something unexpected for others, letting them know they are not alone!

Oh, heavens, I’m fortunate to have discovered your site! Just watched this video start to finish, as it’s just the technique I’ve been experimenting with. Thank you for all the information and demonstrations. I love to commit RAKs and do many. I’ll carry some larger-denomination bills with me and, when in line at the checkout with an obviously needy senior or mom behind me, leave a bill as their payment and take off. Once my daughter and I made numerous peace cranes (origami) and strung them as ornaments with personal wishes to the finder. We left them all over town in trees and bushes, on parking meters, etc. We don’t actually have a great deal of extra money or time, so the acts become even more special. Thanks.

ReplyDeleteSo here's my random acts of kindness story. I am a cancer survivor. I'm officially 3yrs in remission but I still take a daily low dose chemo to make sure the cancer doesn't return. I have met so many wonderful people; lovely patients, care givers, doctors and nurses. I really just want to show everyone I encounter on my cancer journey how much they are appreciated so I keep little books where I've written out encouraging bible verses and just hand them out to random people who I feel like need reminding they are loved. I realize not everyone is a believer but we all need reminding we are loved and appreciated. I am working on partnering with my oncologist office and the local hospital where I received my cancer treatment to give out chemo care bags to cancer patients. There are so many things that you don't realize you need as a cancer patient, like Claritin allergy med to relieve bone pain from chemo, so I want to provide a bag with these as well as other items so that patients don't have to worry about it. I've given out a few already and am making more. Cancer took away a lot but there were so many random strangers and doctors and nurses who poured out so much more into me even when I didn't realize I needed it and I just want to give back as much as possible. Cancer sucks but it will not win.
ReplyDeleteMy random act of kindness is to put toothpaste on my husband's toothbrush. I know he can do it himself but he works long hours and it's a small way for me to tell him that i'm thinking about him.
ReplyDeleteMy random acts of kindness are usually when in line at a store or getting food I will pay for a food order...for military ( I am ex military too) EMT/Paramedics, Police..I've been known to buy food for someone homeless or buy dog food for their pup. or just buy a cup of coffee for a car behind me in line at McDonald's. When I have extra money of course. Even the littler things (littler is that a word? lol it is now!!!) things like reaching something for a senior that is on the top shelf.It only takes a moment to be kind.

ReplyDeleteI forgot to tell you my RAK. I make cards for a group at church that helps seniors in need. They send the cards to these seniors for all the holidays plus birthday etc. I also give out candy. I always take Lindor truffles when I am going to the post office or to a store to give to the cashier. When I go to the supermarket I just pick one up near the register and pay for it so there is no question about where I got it. They are always so surprised and appreciative. I figure it doesn't take much to brighten someone's day.

ReplyDeleteMy RAK doesn't sound all that inspiring now that I've read some of the comments above, but hey, it is what it is right 😃? I'm in a mobility scooter when I walk my dog (Claude is a gorgeous poodle who just loves everyone 😃) anyway, when we are out for a walk we will make a point of saying hello and having a chat to people - might be only 30 seconds, might be 10 minutes. And Claude loves to spread a little "pets as therapy love"😁. Am also making a few cards to give to my hairdresser who I just adore. She has kids....and when you have kids YOU ALWAYS need birthday cards right? So that's my RAK to her- besides, she doesn't charge me for the therapy sessions that my hair appointments sometimes turn into lol.
