Hello Crafters!
We made it to the weekend!
Whoo Hoo for days off!
I'm popping in with another watercolor card for you guys and of course it's flowers :)
I need Spring. It snowed again last night.
Please make it stop.
I shared this card over on the Simon Says Stamp Blog last week but wanted to share here in case you missed it.

I have done this particular watercolor technique before but it's been awhile. You want to use a water-based ink like Distress Inks to stamp your images in and I find I have the best luck with solid stamps.
I started by inking up the rose stamp with picked raspberry, stamping it off once on scrap paper, then stamping it on my actual project.
Using second generation stamping is the ticket here.
First generation is just too dark and doesn't move as well.
Once I had them all stamped I used very little water to begin blending out the color. The more water you use the looser or less defined your flower will be. So start with a little and add more as you go. Once the petal was damp I picked up more color from the palette I created on my craft mat and dropped it in where I wanted it to be the darkest.
I continued doing the same steps until my flowers were complete. Then I'd stamp the next flowers. Each time using the second generation stamping to ensure I had a soft look.
You can watch the entire painting in the video below
Doesn't it just sing Spring! I can't wait until things stat blossoming!
I love how you can get different looks depending on how much water you use.
Which version of the rose was your favorite?
Thank you guys so much for dropping by!
I hope you're having a wonderful weekend :)

ReplyDeleteWow Kelly,I love this. Watercolour is not my favorite because I can't control it, but like this I can. Thanks for this great lesson, I now also know what to do else with my solide flower stamps! Enjoy your sunday and have a great week.
ReplyDeleteLove these stamps Kelly and the way you water coloured them is nothing short of gorgeous! I learned a few new tips here again today. *(Now to just implement them...)
