There are so many amazing things in this release but you know I'm making a bee line for the flowers. Always.
haha.
I chose to work with the Crown Bloom stamp set. This isa builder set but it also includes a black outline for the flower and the leaf, which is what I chose to use.
I have wanted to compare the look of Distress Oxides on Solar White and Kraft for a while now. I thought it would be interesting to make two cards exactly the same to see what the actual color difference was.
For me my "kraft" paper is Neenah Desert Storm which isn't actual kraft but in the card making world it kind of is lol. I was surprised at how vibrant the distress oxides were on a brown background.
I stamped and masked my images before ink blending several colors of distress oxide directly over top. A few water spatters and some perfect pearls later and I moved on to adding some shading with copic markers.
I thought for sure I would love the brighter one but I actually really like how soft the kraft one is.
Surprise!
I skipped a sentiment because honestly I'm not sure what I want to use them for. When I do add it I'll nestle it into that top right area above the gap between the flowers.

ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your world with us! You have taught me so much when it comes to copic coloring. I have to say though that I was watching one of your videos where you were making cards for your sons teachers, and you were sharing about what happened to you when you were playing sports at school. And how it affected you still today. I just wanted to share that I had an experience in school in the fourth grade, and I tried out for a singing part in a musical. I sang, which was so hard for me but I did it, and got the part. I panicked, I could feel the blood in my body rushing to my head, and ended up telling the teacher I couldn’t do it, and that I was scared. Instead of talking to me about it, and encouraging me, he said “ I knew you wouldn’t do it “. He also said that another teacher told him that I wouldn’t do it also! Oh and he said this in front of the entire 4th grade! Everyone laughed! I don’t remember a lot from school, I don’t know if that’s just me, or if it’s normal or not, but I remember that, I am 50yrs old, and that is probably 1out of 10 things that I do remember, and it is at the top of the list. I have never tried out for anything ever again. I wish that some teachers would understand that kids will remember all of the great things they say to kids, and they probably will remember it for the rest of their lives, and I wish that when they say negative things they say impact a child for the rest of their lives. Sorry this was so long, I really just wanted to tell you that I love learning from you, the other stuff just fell out of my head and went right to my typing fingers! Just so you know that you are a teacher to us, and you are doing great!! Thanks, Karen

ReplyDeleteThanks for creating the same card twice on two different cardstock colors. I think they are both gorgeous but I prefer the white cardstock. The flowers are much more vibrant on it. I would love getting either card!

ReplyDeleteKelly, I always enjoy your posts and I really appreciate that you showed me another way to use a stamp set--by only using the outline portion of the flower on this new set! I have often wondered about this and never tried it since the flower is so layered. I am excited to watch your video showing how you did this; you did make one right? Your videos are fun to watch and I really enjoy the human elements that you throw in. Plus you are funny. FABULOUS cards and I like both of your cards equally.
