Alcohol Ink Vs Copic Refill Backgrounds with Neat & Tangled

 Hello Crafters!

It's the weekend and I'm working
BUT
It's beautiful outside and the rain has stayed away so far.
I'm calling it a win.

I'm over on the Neat & Tangled Blog today sharing a comparison video on alcohol inks vs Copic Reinkers. this is something a few people had asked about and I thought it would be nice to see it in action.

The Yupo paper I have is 5x7 so I just cut it in half to create two different backgrounds.
This card was created with the Copic refills. The totally work with the Alcohol mixative you just need to add more pigment to get vibrant color. It also dried a bit quicker than the Ranger Alcohol inks.

For the traditional Alcohol Inks it took more mixative to move it but I had more time to play around with the dry time. The color intensity with just a few drops of ink was also much more opaque. It did dry with a more granulated finish but I actually kind of like it.

You can see both cards come together in the video below

I think both of the girls came out darling. I love how mixing up your approach to the same card can make it look completely different :)

Also I managed to hunt down the mermaid photo...

This photo was taken before I tried to drown myself in the pool
bahaha.

Thanks for dropping in!
I hope you have an amazing weekend :)

  1. Adorable! I have the Ranger alcohol inks and love to play with them. I really like the fact that if I get to too gone with them, I just use the blending solution to clean off my yupo and start all over again! As long as I stick tho the same color family you can't tell anything was ever there before! Love your girls riding the waves!!

  2. Who doesn't wanna be a mermaid, at least for a little bit! Too funny. Fun card technique can't wait to play with my inks. The blending of the floaties is beautiful. Thanks for story time with Kelly!

  3. I still don't have any alcohol inks in my stash. I am getting my first reinkers for my copics but they are for c1 and c3, so not really colours I want to blend with. I think the little black girl might have popped better if she was on a greener background. That dark blue sort of drowns her out which is a shame cause shes such a cutie.

  4. These are so sweet Kelly. I don't have any alcohol inks or Copic refills but if I ever do I will definitely be having some fun with them. You coloured the images so perfectly, you always make it look so easy.

  6. Great way to create a water look, I don't have either the inks or copics so I will have to admire yours. The little girls and their floats are sweet, did you ever post it to Constance ? Way to go to get into that tail and keep a flat tum, I would be blobbing out every where x

  7. Cute images and love the colors. I will be trying the copic refills. I just need to find that paper. You look so cute in the mermaid tail.

  8. Well I wouldn’t manage to get into that tail the first place and it seems hard to swim with it. You look fine though and you make a great mermaid. Your cards are awesome as always.

  9. That pic is epic! Thank you so much for taking your coloring out of the white world. I love seeing different skin and hair color combinations in action. I'm curious if you've done the curly hair technique with lighter colors. Would it ever cover up the stamp lines and look normal? My hair is very curly and sometimes it frustrates me if the stamp has straight hair. I've wanted this stamp set for awhile so now I must have it.

  11. Kelly, First of all I want to say that your work is AMAZING!! I do however want to comment on your mermaid tail, and I have seen some nice mermaid tails in my day! I am so sorry that a picture was taken, as I’m sure you know, as I know, that once a picture is taken of a mermaid, they lose their tail. As I haven’t seen a full length picture of you, I am assuming that it is for that exact reason. I am just putting it out there to let people, who have not come across as many mermaids as I have, please don’t take pictures of mermaids! If they lose their tail, then they have to live in America, and they then they have to deal with Trump, he could easily kick them out of the country for their immigrant status! Now, again Kelly, we both know that once a mermaid loses her tail, and also loses her ability to breathe under water! I mean the repercussions of this go way beyond anything we can help them with, unless we could teach them how to build a wall, Trump could then put them to work to build that wall, then I think, and I’m not sure, but she can then live in Mexico, cause Trump is very clever, as he tells on numerous occasions, and he has the people he wants out of the country, he puts them building on the Mexican side, so when the wall is done, they automatically end up on the Mexican side! It is very similar to when you paint a floor, and you don’t pay attention and you end up stuck in the middle till the paint dries! So everyone, if we can just not take the pictures, and please, please don’t post the pictures, as Trump knows Everything!! Anyway Kelly, I watch all of your videos, and I have learned so much from you, and I thank you, Karen Driscoll

  12. Kelly,
Hi. I want to thank you for sharing your copic adventures, skills and tutorials. As a beginner, I really appreciate you!
Have you ever colored, or would you consider coloring the Pretty Pink Posh Flourishing Fuchsias Stamp Set? I would love to see your take on the shadows/color choices/contrast. I love fuchsias, but sadly - I kill them (the live version) as I try to shower them with LOVE ...
If you would consider, WONDERFUL. If not ... that's ok. This ER nurse loves your approach, technique and STORIES ...
    Thanks again,
    Kris

  13. Kelly, loved the stories you tell while you color: the two bursting pools, squirming and shyimming into the mermaid tail, and your attempts to 'drown' yourself really gave me some joy and laughter-especially since I was at the gym on the ellipitcal while watching this/listening via headphones; and cracking up.
I like that you showed us a compare and contrast with the two alcohol based inks. Both turned out great and so did the girls on their floats! Which background was the copic one? You might have said in the video but I missed it due to my laughter of your stories. Thanks for sharing these and thanks to your family for their loving support! That is great! PS-you totally rocked the mermaid tail!!
