Hello Crafters!
I hope you've been having an amazing weekend!
Mine has been a lot of work but on really good things.
Speaking of good things, I wanted to stop by and share the new Neat & Tangled Throwdown.
The challenge this time around is to create a tutorial. You can do either a video or a photo tutorial.
I did one of each. You can see the photo tutorial and get all the challenge details over on the Neat & Tangled Blog.
You might think that a tutorial is a little too much but the effort is worth the reward. By entering you have a chance to win....
drum roll please...
I tried a lot of different techniques in this card. Playing around with distress oxides is fun! You can check out the whole card in the video below.
I actually really love the gold die cut. I mean honestly, who doesn't love a beautifully sparkly leaf? The stamping underneath is so simple but that shadow adds so much.
In the close up it's definitely easier to see the texture creating from stamping with the water.
Thank you guys so much for stopping by!

Lovely card, as always. As children my brother and I had guinea pigs. My own three daughters had hamsters (3), an indoor rabbit, and a guinea pig. It's true that you will primarily clean the cage and probably nag about food and clean water every day, but it's an important lesson to teach them to care for something little that depends on them and needs their love, to be held and talked to. My grandson now has a guinea pig (I think he was probably 9 when they got Snoopy; he's now 13 (my grandson, not the guinea pig). The hope is that they learn there are people (younger children, a new baby in the family, elderly people, people with disabilities) that also need their care and they'll respond to them as well.
ReplyDeleteParents usually end up caring for little critters, but everyone gets a lot of love from whatever critter they have.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fall card!
First, your card is lovely and the water stamping in the background a great idea for distress oxides. Thanks for sharing it. The only pet experience I can offer is... my sister had a dog before my niece was born and the results were all good since the dog instinctively cared for and even "tolerated" a little one's actions. Of course, my sister cared for her dog but it was a great pet relationship for my niece.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card Kelly, I love the way you watercoloured the background, great job!
ReplyDeleteAbout a pet... I grew up with all kinds of animals, a dog, chickens, doves, all kind of birds etc. A lot of heart/sick annimal, small ones, where having healing time in our garden or shed. But a pet of my one I didn't get before I was about 10 years old. I had two hamsters, so cute and I took care of them myself, that was the bargain and I did.
My daughter was about the same age before she got here own pets, that were gerbils. Her choice was beter than mine, hamsters are nicht animals and sleep during the daytime, so I only could play with them in the evening before I went to bed. The gerbils only take naps and are much more animals that you can tame.
Well that was my pet story, thanks for the card and can't wait to hear what decision you (and peanut) make.
Beautiful autumn themed card, Kelly. Love that watercoloured background! I agree that owning a pet can be a fantastic learning experience, but when your child takes on that responsibility, the major load of responsibility may end up on your shoulders. I can recommend what NOT to get. Do not buy a cute little Red-eared Slider turtle! We bought my son one when he was little. And it grew, and it grew, and it grew until it was about the size of a dinner plate! This meant bigger and bigger enclosures which needed to be cleaned more and more frequently. Guess who ended up with that job? He finally passed on when my son was in university. As a teacher, I used to have gerbils in my classroom. They are usually friendlier than guinea pigs or hamsters and less likely to bite. If you choose to get more than one, I highly recommend getting two of the same sex, unless you want every kid in the neighbourhood to have some too! I'm a big fan of dogs, but having two in the house is much more work than one. Ask me how I know that!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
