Okay let's talk watercolors yes?
I used a combination of the Spring and Winter Watercolor Brush Markers for my two cards today.
I like a looser look with a more controlled application.
I used the same application for both cards. I like to lay down a line of color where I want it to be the darkest then use a slightly damp paintbrush to pull the color out into the petal. This gives me a ton of control over where the pigment goes.
I'm also a huge fan of mixing colors. I like adding two or three colors into one petal or leaf because I think it gives a more dynamic look. I sometimes struggle to get dimension into my watercolor and this helps keep thing interesting for me.
I did manage to get a video together for my second card today. Which is kind of a miracle honestly.
You can see the whole card (and sorta listen to me sniffle, sorry!) in the video below.
In case you get lost along the way here's the entire hop order.
Thank you so much for stopping by!

ReplyDeleteStunning cards and great video!
ReplyDeleteTo say I love this card is such an understatement! But I do get to differ with you on one point- to my eye the watercolour gave you plenty of dimension. And I think Peanut did you a favour; those splatters add a quirky, artsy element to an already gorgeous card.
ReplyDeleteYour water coloring is always so beautiful! I am a big fan of your work.

ReplyDeleteKelly, you are a very talented artist. These cards are gorgeous. I love working with watercolor and really like the “soft” watercolor effect you created. Your stories make me laugh and I’ve learned so much by watching your videos. Thank you so much for sharing! Kathy Tracy
ReplyDeleteI love the no-line watercolor effect - I haven't tried it yet, but I'm really keen to! You make it look so simple! <3
ReplyDeleteBoth cards are just beautiful. The spring colors and the new Winter Wonderland colors work so well together.
ReplyDeleteWow, the card in your video is GORGEOUS and I think you're son did you a favour in adding the extra colour! I love the extra splatters! I may just have to get some of these markers for myself and learn the techniques shown.
ReplyDeleteWow! This card is amazing! Love the new colors?
ReplyDeleteOh, it's this card! I felt so bad for you when you had finished this card, then had to go through and make a whole different card because you got the bloghops mixed up. I wouldn't have taken pictures then either (and I might have thrown the card against the wall, but that's my problem). I so appreciate that you work with materials and techniques that you're not entirely comfortable with, because it helps me learn so much. And that's so cool that you can do messy watercoloring with no-line! I wouldn't have thought that one could do that. Thanks, as always, for sharing your fabulous creativity.
ReplyDeleteso pretty!
ReplyDeleteWhat a simply stunning card.
ReplyDeleteLove it! Soft and vibrant åt the same time very pretty!
ReplyDeleteYour cards are gorgeous and I loved watching you watercolor. It's something that I have not mastered yet because I'm a little bit of a perfectionist! You watercolor like an artist. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card and colors!
ReplyDeleteWow, interesting. The images look different than in other projects - I guess it’s because of the way you apply the watercolor...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards done to perfection Kelly, you have shown them off so amazingly. Well done.xx
ReplyDeleteThey are both awesome Kelly. Couldn't you have just added more colour and made the outer edge of the first one to resemble a "fade out" around the images? (I am pretty sure if anyone could 'fix it', it would be YOU!) Amazing job either way on BOTH of them!
ReplyDeleteAll your cards are gorgeous and you always find a way of rescuing the card.I’m loving the colours of these pens and the silver is a big plus, will treat myself in the near future x.
ReplyDeleteStunning designs Kelly, love your coloring! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteWow! I LOVE how beautiful the soft flowers look, and how much color you have brought to them! It really looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteWow Kelley, Just WOW!! Your coloring is amazing.
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful. Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteLoving both of these cards. You really made your happy accident work beautifully.
ReplyDeleteKelly I am so excited to see this video later today! Sniffles and all. Really, who is not sniffling right now? I bet even down under they have the sniffles because it is summer and they have allergies going on! Your second card really caught my eye and this is the type of watercolor I strive for and often fall short of! But I get back on the horse, and plod on. Both of your cards are stunning, believe you me! I just think this is marvelous and I hope you reveal in your video who you are gonna send that second card to. I know you said you don't often send them out but I think your sister or mom would really love it! Get Peanut to sign it and you really will make one of their days! Hugs to you always!
ReplyDeletewhether with copics or watercolor markers, you have a magic touch! Peanut is an artist, too!
ReplyDeleteOMG you are so talented! Love these color combo
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for sharing this beauty with us
Aya
Love it! And good to know that I'm not the only one whose child "helps out" -- I do like your card best with the splatters and black ink, BTW!
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL watercolor! love the bright colors
ReplyDeleteAwesome cards Kelly and although I love bright colours I don't think these are soft, more inbetween bright and soft oolours. And if you didn't tell about the purple splatters everyone would have thought they belong there. Thank you for showing your beautyful cards, hope you have a great time in the elderly center and have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful card, I love your painting!
ReplyDeleteWhen I grow up; I want to have 1/2 of the talent you have; you forever blow me away (said from a chick 20 years older than you)!! LMBO!
ReplyDeleteStunning cards! Loved watching your creative process in the video. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThe coloring is spectacular! Just like real! Was blown away by the shading.
ReplyDeleteYour watercoloring reminds of impressionist artists! Gorgeous work! Am loving the new brush markers!
ReplyDeleteI love the loose feel of the water coloring. The free flow. Beautiful colors and how you create your flow of colors. Beautiful stamps and markers. Oh tiny hands. At least he's expressing his creative side. just not only on his work. I am glad you made it work. Awesome that peanut wants to be creative. Love when kids do that.
ReplyDeleteOh Kelly , such a beautiful job , now I need these pens !
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly! Your cards are fresh and the flower petals are sooooo soft I just want to reach out to touch one :) Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteLoved watching how you stamp and layer and mask. That is always hard for me to figure out. You make it look easier! Love your coloring technique, too....seems a bit easier to me and I love the look. You really achieved a great depth. Thanks for your inspiration! Can't wait to get my set of winter markers!
ReplyDeleteIt was another masterpiece, stunning until you added the definition of the centers....and then WOW,it took it to a whole new level! I would watch your videos even if you were hacking and blowing your nose!! Get well though and thankyou for sharing your God given talent with us, your youth group and especially the seniors in your community!

ReplyDeleteFantastic coloring and details!
ReplyDeleteWOW, Kelly! I can think of other words that would keep me going on for hrs abt these cards. I just "happened to find your site" by scrolling, and its the BEST thing I've done in a long time. I bought everything I needed to make the "hugs" card. I have a learning disability and I am more of a VISUAL learner. I may be stopping and starting a million times but I'm determined. I can't wait to use the new alcohol ? Ink water brushes. I'll practice a little bit so I don't use them completely up. Wish me luck. Sorry, this is SO long. ( I'm so excited!)😁
