You know I love me some bright fun colors but this time I went bold. It was kind of a happy accident. I'm certainly not mad about it!
It's been a while since I've done an embossed resist so today was the day. I stamped my sentiment first onto my watercolor paper with the intent of doing a one layer card. Once my sentiment was stamped I masked it and then laid down my flowers. Stamping the central sentiment first allows me to get proper placement and balance for my flowers.
I stamped my flowers in Versamark, sprinkled on some white embossing powder and then heat set them. I masked the sentiment and flowers again to stamp the leaves. Which I embossed exactly the same way.
Now that I had all my images down it was time to start painting. I used the Turquoise to draw a rough outline of all my stamping. I then used a paintbrush to add clean water around the ink. Not touching the pigment yet :) Bringing the clean water to the pigment helps it to fade off naturally. Once I had gone around the entire image I went back in with the Desert Night and just added it in specific areas. It's important your watercolor paper still be wet when you do or the colors won't blend.
Once the background dried I went in and added three colors to the flowers. I added Fresh Lemon to the base of the petals, then Crimson, and finally Purple Wine on the very edges. I added water to each petal moving from the base of the petal (lightest color) to the petal edges (darkest color). It doesn't water which way you do it (base of petal or tips of petals) as long as your always going from your lightest color to your darkest color.
When I was doing the second flower I accidentally squeezed the Purple Wine color trying to get the lid off. Consequently a lot more pigment came out. I could have absorbed it with a paper towel but I actually really love the bold flowers with that blue background! I heat set the sentiment on black in white and popped it up as the one layer sentiment was getting a bit lost in all that color.
Took me til the end of the day but the video is done haha!
Your next stop on the hop is the Altenew Scrapbook Blog which is always full of awesome inspiration.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had your little purple wine incident (which sounds much more scandalous than it actually was), because now I see that one can achieve some cooler reds with this set. The crimson is so warm that it looks almost orange to me, so I'm happy to know that it can be offset with the purple wine. Definitely a happy accidents moment! Thanks, as always, for sharing.
