Rock N Roll Technique with Distress and Dye Inks

 Hello Crafters!

Happy Friday!
Whoo Hoo.

Today's cards are super quick because let's be honest sometimes you need a fast one. For me it's usually because I have forgotten and I need to make it last minute.
Story of my life.
This card uses products from both the Scrapbook.com March and May Release.

We're using the rock n roll technique to add shading to out balloon bouquets. You can do this technique with pretty much any ink you own. I did my two examples with dye ink and distress inks. Just make sure you're working on watercolor paper for the distress inks.

All you need to do this is two ink colors in the same color family, one light and one dark. I stamped my circle one time with the light ink. Then I inked it up again with the light ink but held it on an angle so that only the edge of the circle went into the dark ink. It's super easy and can add fun effects. You don't have to stamp it once it the lighter ink but I think it gives me a more blended result.

With the distress inks I skipped stamping in the lightest ink first. Distress inks stamp splotchy regardless so I felt no need to do that stamp. I just inked with the lightest color, held it at an angle and got the edges in my darker color, stamped it down. BOOM. Shaded balloon.
Once it's stamped I do like to go in with a little bit of water and a small paint brush to help them blend.

You can see both cards from start to finish and hear about Peanut's first day of camp in the video below.

It's pretty easy to see the difference between the two inks. The dye inks dry back softer and smoother while distress inks are much brighter. Their shading is also more noticeable. Either way I think it's a simple fun technique to try!

Thank you guys so much for stopping by!
I'll be back tomorrow with another video!

  1. Great way to colour/stamp balloons Kelly, I love both of the cards.
Yes, I am a mom to and it is hard, it stays hard no matter how old they are. In your heart you want to do everything for them but you know they have to do it thereselfs. Thumbs up for you that you left Peanut at summer camp instead of taking him wiht you.
Thanks for your gorgeous cards, great video tutorial and your lovely story, have a great weekend.

  5. I feel your pain. Feels like yesterday I dropped my 3 year old off at a day camp and he sat on my foot and clung to my leg and begged me not to leave him! He was fine within 20 mins but I was shot for the day. I still cry if I think about it too long. Same boy turned 18 this year and I have to drop him off at college in the fall. Eek! I've been crying for months thinking about it! Great cards!
