Fall Inspired Distress Oxide Watercolor: WPlus9 Sitewide Sale

I'm a giver, really. 

Even though I am desperately clinging to summer like a toddler on the first day of school I decided to try my hand at a more autumn inspired card. You know I think it's good to break out of your box sometimes. So here I am boxless. 

I started by heat embossing the Kind Soul floral border in white on watercolor paper. I masked the flowers to stamp the wood grain background. These wood planks lineup super easy to cover an entire background.

Once my background was stamped I started in with the watercoloring. All the colors. Seriously, I picked so many distress oxide colors because I love the color variation. I used three colors for each element. I did a flat wash of clean water in the background and then began to multiple layers of brown to it.  I don't have to worry about the lines running because WPlus9 inks are waterproof! 

Once the background was done and dry I moved onto the floral border. I fill in each flower with clean water and then drop in the lightest color where I want it to be the darkest. Sounds weird right? I keep dropping in the colors lightest to darkest in the same exact spot. After I clean my brush I drop in clean water just at the tip of the petal then let the water do the work.

Even though it's different for me I do like how it turned out. Honestly, the wood grain is my favorite part. It looks so dynamic! Plus those gold spatters, for real.
