Hello Crafters!
It's been a minute.
Here's why.
After getting back from vacation I was in a bit of a mojo crisis. Like I had none.
I tried to create a couple of cards I had deadlines for and couldn't come up with anything I liked.
When that happens for me one of the first things I try is making something I want to make using products I'm excited about. Usually that helps put me back in a creative mind set which allows me to go back to those deadlines with a new perspective.
Here's the fruit of that labor :)
I started by playing around with my alcohol inks for a beach background. I also had some new to me Opal Deco Foil I wanted to try and was still really digging my glitter paste. With all that I sat down to play.
At first the alcohol ink was getting out of hand then it got down right ugly lol.
It happens. I don't unpack and live there. Alcohol inks are very forgiving.
I just wipe it off and start over. If you're background is already dry reactivate it with some over the counter Isopropyl Alcohol and start again.
Easy Peasy.
The key for me was to use a buffer ink in between my blues and oranges. The Pearl Mixative worked great!
After I let it dry for a few minutes I out the Opal foil on and then burnished it with my finger. This sticks to the sticky part of your alcohol ink and adds a really pretty shine.
After I completed the foil step I cut the yupo paper in half so I would have two backgrounds.
I decided to try the glimmer paste on my second background. I thought the glitter with the Rice Paddies stencil would look super cool on the "water" portion.
Unfortunately, I don't love it. I know it's blasphemy coming from me because GLITTER but I think it takes away from the background.
You can check out the entire process for both cards in the video below and here a little vacation recap too :)
I think in the end they both came out cute. I'm just less of a layerer I think. It's okay though it's good to try new things!
Speaking of the new things, that opal foil is gorgeous! You can really see the shine in this close up.
Definitely doing that again!
Thanks for stopping by!

Very effective as beach scenery & well rescued from disaster dumpster. I've come to the much experimented conclusion that alcohol inks, yupo paper & I don't play well together at all. Have a fabulous week x
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips on alcohol ink background, Kelly. Your backgrounds are beautiful. Like the idea of using inks to create a specific kind of backgrounds.
ReplyDeleteGreat backgrounds. What do you mean by buffer ink?
ReplyDeleteAlways love your cards and the fact that you never start over but show how to fix something!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the story and I think you are a great mom and think that women must support each other much more regardless iff they work, work half time or are stayd home moms instead of competing each other.
