MFT September Release: No Line Coloring Floral Focus

 

Hello Crafters! 

I'm so excited to be joining My Favorite Things for their September release!

There were so many cute things to choose from but you know the flowers stole my heart. 

It's just how it goes. 

It's been awhile since I did any no line coloring so I decided it was the prefect time to get some practice in. Everyone has their challenges and for me this is a big one. I have to slow down and take my time or I end up with blobby flowers. And unless you're watercoloring that ain't cute. 

Usually I color first and then die cut. However for this particular piece it made more sense to die cut first since it's not an open die. It would be nearly impossible to line up the die if I stamped first. Once I die cut my flowers out I used my MISTI to line it up and stamp in Ink on 3 Fadeout ink. I did stamp it twice so I would have a good solid outline to work with. 

My usual process is coloring the entire flower at one time from my lightest ink to my darkest and then back again. Which is how I did my first two flowers. In doing the first two I found that I had a hard time keeping the petals separate once I started adding all the colors. In any coloring it's important to have a shadow and a highlight. It's what creates dimension in your coloring. It's especially important in no line coloring because it also creates separation between your petals making them look like flowers instead of blobs haha. 

For the remaining flowers I colored each petal to completion before moving on to the next. This did add some time to the process but it was worth it. It was much easier to see where each petal began and ended this way. 

I used my distress oxides to create an ink blended background with some spatters of perfect pearls to pop up my flowers over top of. I also used the new Bitty Thanks and Gratitude set but on the inside of the card. They have some many great gratitude sentiments in this one! 

I did film this bad boy but between the birthday celebration and bringing home a new pup I haven't had time to edit it yet. Be on the look out for it later tonight.
