Hello Crafters!
Welcome to another Saturday of me blowing up your inbox.
I know, I'm sorry.
Typing the blog post is the usually the hardest part for me to get to. Probably because it takes a minute and sometimes I don't have a minute.
So why blog?
I know they are dying out. However, I think it's so important to have a reference for things. Where you can see and get more detail if you need it. There is nothing worse than finding something on Pinterest you love and finding the link goes to nothing.
Anywho...on to the card!
Anywho...on to the card!
I shared this card over on the Neat & Tangled Blog about two weeks ago. This may be one of my favorite cards I have ever made. No joke. It has so many of my favorite things!
In order to get the transparent look I started with second generation stamping. This part my be the most important part. Seeing the lines through the wings is what gives it it's power. A stamp positioner of some kind is going to be your bestie here folks.
I stamped my moth and masked it. Then with the mask on I stamped my floral arrangement. I then removed the mask and WITHOUT RE-INKING stamped the floral arrangement again in the same exact spot. That's where the stamp positioner comes in. It's gotta line up.
It's gonna look a little crazy messy. It's okay, hang in here with me.
I moved on to my ink blending from here. I wanted the moth to look like it was glowing. To achieve this I left a white halo around the image. There are some areas around the edges that do get the blue shades of distress ink on them. Don't worry it adds to the effect.
I used four colors of distress ink with the lightest color closest to the white halo and the darkest color on the edges. This creates the glow effect we're going for.
For some added shine and interest I spattered both clean water and prefect pearls onto the background.
Once your background is dry you can move on to the copic coloring.
I found it was easiest to keep my areas straight (detailed coloring vs solid coloring) by mapping my areas in the very beginning.
What is mapping?
Use your lightest color to fill the areas under the wings. This helps to separate them from the more detailed coloring we'll be doing outside the wings.
Once the detailed coloring is done outside the wings you'll take a midtone color and outline the lines of the moth. then completely fill in your moth with a light color of your choice. Lunar moths are lime green so I choseYG17 to outline and YG01 to fill in. By going over your previously mapped colors it will appear as if you can see the colors through the wings.
Two things to note here: 1. Be aware of colors that may mix and make brown. Test your color glazing on a scrap paper before you apply it to your project. 2. If your colors aren't showing enough consider going darker.
Check out the video to see the technique in effect.
I hope you'll give this technique a try. It's one of those WOW ones that are really easy to pull off with a few tries.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
