Creating a Slimline Tri-Fold Card

I'm a little late sharing this one.
You may have seen it over on the Honey Bee Stamps Blog last weekend. I have a good reason for being late though. We spent last weekend celebrating February birthdays in our family which includes my Momma and Eric. 

I bought my Mom this bracelet from Etsy which says "All that I am I Owe to You" which is 100% accurate. It came in a jewelry box wrapped in a matching bow which means it was pretty much wrapped haha. 

Eric's gift was a bit harder because I bought him concert tickets. Nowadays, almost all concert tickets are done digitally through apps so you have nothing tangible to give the recipient. 

Enter the Slimline tri-fold card. :) 

His gift is tickets to the Foo Fighters concert so I knew I wanted the guitars and the drum (Hello Dave Grohl, How are you? *Wink) the rest of the images in the set just rounded the design out perfectly.
So why the tri-fold slimline?
I'm glad you asked!

I made this insert to go into his card and it is obviously not an A2 size. I also wanted to still be able to write inside the card. 

I started with the card base which is 8.5 inches x 7 inches. I scored in the middle at 3.5 inches. 

The insert, or tri-fold portion was cut to 8.5 inches x 4 inches. I scored a half inch in to create a half inch flap. I matched up the score lines on the base with the insert and only applied glue to just the flap portion. I did cut a piece of cardstock to 8.5 x 3.5 to use as my card front. I like having this separate in case something goes awry then I don't have to throw out my entire base. 

So I have the card front, open it to the gift, and open it again to read his birthday note. 

Win-Win-Win. 

I started by inking up the background with distress inks in two different reds. I knew I wanted it to be an ombre of reds to fade off at the top. I started with two reds but ultimately ended up adding black to the bottom to give it a more masculine look. 

I finished off the background with some water spatters and some perfect pearls. 

Since the insert was red, black and white, I wanted to carry that through the whole design. 

I stamped all the images and colored them with copic markers before cutting them out using their companion dies. I also die cut several hearts and my sentiment. I wanted the "Happy Birthday" to be a bit more substantial without taking up too much of the card. 3.5 inches isn't a lot! Vellum fit the bill wonderfully.
