Hello Crafters!
I have another no line watercoloring for you all but this time we are mixing outline and solid stamped images.
Sound fun right?
Good, cause it is :)
Pretty much the moment I saw the You Anchor Me set I knew I was watercoloring it.
100% no doubts it had to be watercolor.
That's just how my brain saw it and honestly, my brain new what it was talking about. I love how it came out.
I stamped my anchor first so I would no where to place my flowers. Then came the biggest flower because it will be where the eye is drawn first. I did create a mask for this flower, but why?
well, because the Gina K Whisper ink absorbs the color that's on top of it which makes it the cat's pajamas for no line coloring. BUT because it absorbs the color if I just stamp my stems and petals on top of it you'll be able to see it when I add the watercolor. Nothing else overlapped so it was the only place masking was needed.
It took me a minute to find y groove since it's been so long since I watercolored. I switched back and forth between wet on dry and wet on wet techniques. Use which ever one works best for you as long as you can control your amount of water.
More water = looser watercolor
Less water = detailed watercolor.
Neither is wrong or bad or ugly. I just prefer a more detailed look.
For the wet on dry, lay down a line of color where you want to the color to be the darkest. Rinse your brush and blot the base (not the tip!) on a papertowel. Pull the color out towards the lightest part of your object (petal, leaf, berry etc.)
For wet on wet, dip your brush into clean water and blot the base (not the tip!) on a papertowel. Wet the entire area (petal, leaf, berry etc.). Pick op your pint color and drop it into the wet area where you want it to be the darkest. Let the water do the work and leave it alone. If it's not spreading as far as you would like add small amounts of water until it is moving again.
You can see both techniques in the video below.
This style of water coloring can create some really beautiful results. I find the wet on dry to be easier for beginners. Take it slow and go petal by petal until you're more comfortable.
Tanks for dropping in!

ReplyDeleteGorgeous creation, I love your videos and love hearing the story about Mr. Australia's nicknames for you!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card, I love the beautiful watercolouring. I find your colouring awesome, I am also a lover of detail and not the lose colouring.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right, practice is everything. When I was a young girl I was always drawing, when I was a teenager I was still drawing. Then life took over and last december, after many, many years, I had to draw something. I was in rehab after I had been hospitalized and didn't had much craft supplies brought by my husband. Because how do you explaine what you want and where to find. I wanted to make a card for my daughters birthday and on that card I wanted a few books. And there comes the part of practice, I couldn't even draw a pile of books anymore. I erased it many times but on the end there was a pile of books.
I wasn't confident about it, but one of the nurses came in my room, saw it and asked right away who the book lover was. So I finished the card and my daughter thought it was great.
Thanks for your gorgeous card, loved your story about the Australian husband, have a wonderful week!
Stunning card. Your watercoloring is amazing.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous image & very pretty painting of this set of images from Gina K. Had to giggle at your Australian couple as I must admit as I listen to your video's my partner always calls you any who ! Oh & your fiance is known as Mr mumbo jumbo glue as they heard that story. So glad it's not just my partner that gives crafters names to identify who I'm listening to. Bless all those in the fires x
