Hello Crafters!
Happy Monday!
It's actually beautiful weather here this morning and even though I know it's going to rain tonight this 60 degrees and sunny is putting me in a very good mood :)
Today we're going to be combining both Copic markers and Colored Pencils for a more detailed no line coloring look.
Before we get into the card I wanted to mention that Concord & 9th is having a huge inventory sale.
Seriously huge!
There are deep discounts on everything from flowers to turn about stamps and paper packs. Plus you can earn free stuff depending how much you spend!
The stamps I used today are both on sale the Wildflower set is marked down to $10.80 and the Loves Notes are $750. Shop the sale here
Have you heard of Kathy Racoosin's 30 Day color Challenge? She's been doing it for quite some time but the last few times I didn't really get a chance to participate. I've been trying to be better about playing along this time! One of Kathy's techniques is to add details with colored pencils. While I don't typically reach for them turns out she's right haha. Combining the two mediums left me with much cleaner results in my no line coloring.
I started by creating a template to frame my sentiment. I couldn't stamp my sentiment first because I wanted a crisp black sentiment. A lot of the copic safe inks just aren't as bold. I used the template to line up my stamps in my MISTI and stamp them exactly where I wanted. I used InkOn3 Fadeout ink for the no line coloring look. However, I've found I like it better when I double stamp the image for a darker impression. I did mask the flowers to get a one layer look.
Once all the stamping was done I colored in the images with my copic markers. I have found with no line coloring I like the result better if I g in smaller sections. For flowers that means one petal at a time. If I try to tackle the entire flower at once things get a little mushy and it's much harder to see the guidelines. When I finished the copic coloring I stamped my sentiment. The colored pencils I use are waxed base. I didn't want the pencils repelling the ink and creating an uneven sentiment.
Adding the colored pencil really cleaned up the entire look of this card. Especially the striated flower. Getting lines that straight is next to impossible with a copic marker.
You can see the entire process in the video below.
I thin I'll definitely be reaching for my colored pencils when doing no line coloring now. Kathy is an amazing colorist and you can get more of her tips on her blog. Also, don't forget to head over and check out the Concord & 9th Sale. That's where I'm heading!
Thanks for dropping by!

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing, have a great week and I hope you find your dreamdress.
Unsolicited advice alert!.. ok maybe not advice..but
ReplyDeleteHave you given any thought to your girls wearing convertible style dresses? I have a few from this Canadian company called Henkaa and they are beautiful! They come in a ton of colours and the ladies can wear them any which way that makes them comfortable with their bodies (including ways with a standard bra!). There's a few different types too, and a ton of accessories you can get to add more coverage, bling it up a bit if that's your jam. If i could do it all again, I would have gotten these dresses for my girls in a heart beat!
