No Line Colored Pencil Butterfly Beauties

Yes, I just posted a blog post 5 minutes ago.

How? 

I'll distract you with pretty cards.

These two gorgeous gals are from the newest Neat & Tangled release and I love them. 

Seriously, huge sucker for butterflies over here. 

I've been trying to practice those colored pencils lately so I colored it twice. Once with a black out line and once with no outline. Gasp! 

I know. 

I stamped my butterfly in Ink on 3 Fade Out Ink and got to work.  First things first, keep your tips sharp. It seems silly but trying to get good blending in small areas requires sharp tips and it's much easier to color in those small areas when you have them. 

Second piece of advice, instead of doing the entire wing do one segment at a time. 

I try to keep the lines intact as much as possible. What do I mean? 

When I'm coloring segments I try not to do two right next to each other until I'm more comfortable. For example, when I did the wings I skipped segments in between so it wouldn't get blobby and cause me to lose my lines. Blobby is a technical term. I'm a professional. 

Whether it was this black outline one or the no line butterfly I colored the same way. Use a light hand with multiple layers of color. Honestly I do the same thing as I do with Copics. I start with my lightest color, working out to my darkest color, then back to my lightest. You want to fill in the fibers of the paper with color to get a smooth blended result. 

It takes time. 

It takes more time doing it no line. 

I think it's worth it though. The look you get with no line coloring is beautiful. 

Speaking of beautiful can we talk about the chandelier jewel effect included with this set. 

I super extra puffy heart them. 

Though I'm still partial to the black outline. Security blankie and all that jazz. 

Plus anything where soft edges are combined with hard lined geometric shapes makes my heart go pitter patter.
