Two ways to Use Zig Clean Color Markers

   Hello Crafters!

Long time no see right?
Honestly, I haven't felt much like crafting lately and even less like editing and doing voice overs.
Blog? Forget about it.

On the plus side that does mean I'm stock piling videos lol. In fact I made these cards almost two months ago. That's pretty much unheard of for me. Usually I'm making the day of or the night before.

Nonetheless, here we are.

I hadn't used my Zig Clean Color Markers in quite some time. I thought it would be fun to use them in two different ways so you could see how versatile this medium is.

The first way I used them is very clean and controlled watercoloring. It gives a very neat appearance and since Zigs are SO bright the concentrated color definetly pops off the page.

Zigs are great to get color variation no matter which way you are using them. Here I layered several colors on top of one another by starting with a base color and then adding in bits of secondary colors blending them with the water.

The second way I used them is a much looser look. My favorite way to showcase this style is by making a scene. Zigs create such beautiful backgrounds. In fact, that's mostly what I use them for! I did have a bit of trouble blending some of the darker colors when I went direct to paper but I know that's more the paper than the marker.

Several crafters rave about zigs on Bristol paper but I never could get it to work for me. I usually use Canson Monteval Aquarelle Watercolor paper and like that quite a bit.

Once my background was in place I painted my characters using zigs in a very similiar way to the first card. I just used less pigment to keep the colors more subtle.
A heat embossed sentiment tied the whole scene together.

Both cards were foam mouted on their card bases. White gel pen was used to add highlights and I outlined all my images for that bold black outline I love so much.

You can watch the whole process in the video below.

Thank you so much for stopping by!
I hope to see you again soon!

  4. Fantastic card designs, love the brightness of the colours used. Totally understand the need to disappear for a while, think lots of us are having similar feelings, I do. Love that your restoring furniture, my first chair was done when I was 12 years old, gosh my dad got a shock to find me with paint stripper, a scraper & a blow torch working on the patio at this chair. The learnt a lot on that chair & have done many bits since, so enjoy the results of others work. Stay safe, healthy and most importantly happy creating art x
