Hello Crafters!
Every year my friend Michelle Lupton does a fun and inspirational Christmas challenge. This year's challenge is called CASE Me a Card and it was so fun!
The idea behind it is Michelle picks a card to CASE from one of her guest's and her guest picks one of Michelle's cards to CASE.
AND you must turn it into a Christmas card.
I'm the guest today!
Yay!
Here's what I came up with.
There was so many wonderful cards to choose from I had a really hard time selecting one but ultimately this alcohol inked beauty really spoke to me.
I loved the clean white look with the multi-colored alcohol ink background.
It's such a beautifully executed card.
You can see Michelle' original post here.
While I loved the card I was a little short on supplies to make it so I decided to try the cheap chicken version. Please don't be offended by that. I am a cheap chicken. I made my own masking paper for years ya'll. In a pinch I still do.
I love Yupo paper for my alcohol ink cards but I wanted to make this one a slimline and I only had smaller pre-cut sheets so I decided to try photo paper which I have plenty of in 8.5 x 11.
I was almost out of Alcohol Blending solution but I had plenty of rubbing alcohol.
This is a good ol' what I had on hand type card guys.
*Just a note in the supplies I didn't link either since you can pick them up just about anywhere.*
What did I find?
It works....ish.
You know I like to keep it real with ya'll so that's the honest answer. The alcohol ink doesn't move the same with the rubbing alcohol/photo paper as it does with the Alcohol Blending Solution/Yupo.
I had to add quite a bit of alcohol and pigment to get coverage AND even then I had to default to using the fely pad to get them to really mix.
If you love the more blended look you get from the felt pad applicators then absolutely save your money. This will work for you.
If you love the more organic blending you get with just adding pigments and letting them do their thing, this probably isn't the way to go. If you're looking to see the difference check out this post here.
Once my inking was done I set it aside to dry. I used my Mistletoe Slimline die to cut out some white and then used the coordinating stencil to add some red to the berries. That stencil is just genius!
Because it's me and I wanted to put my own spin on it I did add shading to the mistletoe and berries with copic markers.
I love the way that dimension looks!
A die cut sentiment and a few heat embossed labels later it was finished.
Honestly it was a really fast card for me.
*pats on back*
I did film it but you know me. It's not edited yet.
I'll add it in once it's up.
Thanks to Michelle for inviting me. You can headover to her blog to see her CASE of my card here.
Have a wonderful week!

ReplyDeleteI love your card Kelly, can't wait to see the video.
ReplyDeleteI never used alcohol ink but from what I read on other posts is thst some use the photopaper but than the wrong site that would work better.
Honstely I think your card is even more beautiful than Michelle's card, problaby because of the hint of red in the card.
Thank you so much for sharing, stay safe and have a wonderful day.
