CASE Me A Christmas Card with Michelle Lupton: Alcohol Ink Background with Photo Paper and Rubbing Alcohol

 Hello Crafters!

Every year my friend Michelle Lupton does a fun and inspirational Christmas challenge. This year's challenge is called CASE Me a Card and it was so fun!

The idea behind it is Michelle picks a card to CASE from one of her guest's and her guest picks one of Michelle's cards to CASE.
AND you must turn it into a Christmas card.
I'm the guest today!
Yay!

Here's what I came up with.

Now how did I get here?
Let's take a look at Michelle's amazing card.

There was so many wonderful cards to choose from I had a really hard time selecting one but ultimately this alcohol inked beauty really spoke to me.
I loved the clean white look with the multi-colored alcohol ink background.
It's such a beautifully executed card.
You can see Michelle' original post here.

While I loved the card I was a little short on supplies to make it so I decided to try the cheap chicken version. Please don't be offended by that. I am a cheap chicken. I made my own masking paper for years ya'll. In a pinch I still do.

I love Yupo paper for my alcohol ink cards but I wanted to make this one a slimline and I only had smaller pre-cut sheets so I decided to try photo paper which I have plenty of in 8.5 x 11.
I was almost out of Alcohol Blending solution but I had plenty of rubbing alcohol.
This is a good ol' what I had on hand type card guys.
*Just a note in the supplies I didn't link either since you can pick them up just about anywhere.*

What did I find?
It works....ish.

You know I like to keep it real with ya'll so that's the honest answer. The alcohol ink doesn't move the same with the rubbing alcohol/photo paper as it does with the Alcohol Blending Solution/Yupo.
I had to add quite a bit of alcohol and pigment to get coverage AND even then I had to default to using the fely pad to get them to really mix.

If you love the more blended look you get from the felt pad applicators then absolutely save your money. This will work for you.
If you love the more organic blending you get with just adding pigments and letting them do their thing, this probably isn't the way to go. If you're looking to see the difference check out this post here.

Once my inking was done I set it aside to dry. I used my Mistletoe Slimline die to cut out some white and then used the coordinating stencil to add some red to the berries. That stencil is just genius!
Because it's me and I wanted to put my own spin on it I did add shading to the mistletoe and berries with copic markers.
I love the way that dimension looks!

A die cut sentiment and a few heat embossed labels later it was finished.
Honestly it was a really fast card for me.
*pats on back*

I did film it but you know me. It's not edited yet.
I'll add it in once it's up.

Thanks to Michelle for inviting me. You can headover to her blog to see her CASE of my card here
Have a wonderful week!

Sophisticated Christmas Shaker

Hello Crafters!

It's been a minute since I posted and even now I'm a few days behind.
Story of my life really.

Today I'm sharing this fun sophisticated shaker that I was blessed enough to share over on the Honey Bee Stamps Blog late last week.

Every year Honey Bee does a super cute 12 days of Christmas share over on their blog and I am honored to have been invited.

I first die cute all of my pieces out of white cardstock and then set the middle frame piece aside. I used Distress Oxides to color the base layer and the topper piece for my snow globe. Once my ink blending was done I used the one of the brown Distress Oxides to stamp the Barn Wood Background stamp for the real farmhouse feel. Next I stamped all of my decor images to begin my coloring.

I copic colored all of my images before using their companion dies to trim them out. I took my time and arranged the pieces on my base layer so everything fit inside. I love the berries in this stamp set they are perfect to make a full bouquet or in my case more like a spray. I started gluing my pieces together top to bottom to make sure nothing moved. I glued my bow to my flower, my flower to my leaves, etc. Until it was one piece then I glued the entire piece down as one. Once it was placed I used my copic markers to blend in the white outline to the background giving the illusion they are one layer.

After that I just had to build the shaker. I used left over packaging as my window and trimmed it to the size of my framed die. I typically add two layers of foam tape around the edges of my shaker cards but for this one I only did one. It seemed to give plenty of room for the sequins to move and will cost less to mail. Speaking of sequins, I piled up some clear sequins in the center of my flower and then attached the frame over top. To add a "frosty" look I used a stiff bristle brush and the tiniest amount of white acrylic paint to dab around the edges. Dab your brush off several times before taking the brush to the acrylic.
Last just arrange your die cut sentiment and "decorations" on your snowglobe to finish it off. I really love the way this one came out and I hope you do too!

You can watch the very long video below. Grab the coffee, and a snack :)

I hope you're having a wonderful week!
